Mmm, what have I done?
I bought a 2012 S350 last year. There's been a couple of issues that haven't gone away.
It occasionally goes into limp mode, and throw errors related to the DPF. I had the DPF pressure sensor changed, and the car "properly reset", but still the errors.
The sound system has also degraded. Last year it would sometimes loose the sound. Now it only sometimes produces sound.
It's been to a local specialist, but I thought I'd break out the big guns and take it to the dealer. £170 for an hours diagnosis, presumably hooked up to their XENTRY machine.
The result? The "computer" says the DPF has an internal fault, and it needs a SW upgrade to fix the sound issue (really?, a SW update for the sound? I'm double checking that Monday)
And to fix both these problems will cost £3300. Foolishly I told them to go ahead (I've had a good year so far, but the tide is turning)
The problem is, apart from it being a ridiculous amount of money, I don't actually have any confidence this will fix the problem. You hear so many stories of expensive parts being replaced only to discover the problem persists, until a faulty £50 sensor is replaced.
What I should have done is told them to first fix the sound issue with their SW update. And if that worked, take a punt on the DPF.
I did google search for S350/DPF prices. Even ebay versions were £900. Ho hum, fingers crossed.
Place your bets, the wheel of fortune is spinning...
