Came across this today. My word haven't F1 cars grown into bloated monsters nowadays (yes, I know why, safety ) This was when designers were really letting their ideas fly, wonderful

I loved that design as kid simply because it was different. I had a model one too.

Also loved the black and gold JPS livery of the era as driven by Emerson Fittipaldi.

I’ve got a Scalextric one from the early 80’s I think.

It’s in the loft somewhere…..and there be spiders!

At some point I’ll have to dig it out. I remember I had a few scalextric cars. I can’t really remember what I had though! Definitely a couple of TR7s, the Tyrell, a couple of BMW 3.0 CSL’s. You’ve got me looking now! ah I also had the 6 wheel March, with the 4 wheels at the back! I tended to buy more weird stuff!

Going back to Tyrell, apparently the old Tyrell shed in Ockham is being moved to Goodwood (or it may have moved already). I was going to take a look to see it in its original location. 20 years or so ago I had a client on the same site and they showed me inside. It was literally just a big shed! Still had some old Tyrell pictures on the wall then.

I had a TR7 as well.

I watched the 6 wheel Tyrell race live in 1976 at the British and Dutch Grand prix. It was reasonably successful and very much in the spirit of F1 inovation. The great thing about F1 in those days is it wasn't immediately banned. They did ban it eventually but only 2 years later and by then it was uncompetitive anyway.
