The 2020 CL215 Owners Register

Any ideas 215ers?

Afternoon all, not a great deal to report back from me recently as my CL55 is still with Avantgarde in Clevedon awaiting delivery of a new ABC pump which is being built as none available anywhere it would seem along with many older MB parts.

Frustrating to have my car gone so long, but we have been through some challenging times which has put pressure on supply chains and getting parts into the country!

It will be like having a new car again when I finally get it back, so fingers crossed that will be soon.

Just catching up on the thread and saying hi to everyone and also to those of you in the US, great to hear from other CL enthusiasts across the globe.

Pete

That is a very long time to wait Pete ! Thanks for the warning.

Did you find the cause of your of your problem Helen ?
Not just yet.

I checked all the fuses and replaced the front SAM again (I think I broke the main connection clamp when I fitted the first replacement) and it's changed. It says it doesn't recognise the key, then after a short while it changes to place gear selector into position P. The ignition key now turns though.

Anyone have a spare ABC Tandem pump? Still waiting new part from Mercedes and getting a little fed up now! My CL55 has been off the road 6 months now!

Hey All, just joined the forum. I own a 2003 silver CL500 with black leather interior
Received it in a pretty unorthodox fashion in that it was given to me! It’s only got about 48k on the clock and the engine is absolutely mint.
Am having some issues with it though:
1. Terrible battery drain - something is clearly pulling overnight as it can die in a couple of days
2. Central locking. Probably airleaks but the pump has been refurbed but still challenging
3. Water is getting into the boot - but I can’t tell where - could be terrible condensation? No idea but it’s starting to mould.
If anyone has any tips or any advice on any of the above or advice on choosing a reliable and reasonable Mercedes specialist garage I would be most appreciative

Aside from the above, it’s absolutely pukka and a joy to drive.
Although may be short lived due to ULeZ extension…..

Thanks
Liam

Welcome Liam, firstly 'have you stolen my car as those issues are exactly the same as I have on my silver CL55 AMG at the moment :) !

What a fabulous gift and at least you have had no outlay to start with and that is very low mileage. Do you have plenty of history and paperwork as worth checking if the ABC has been repaired at any point with original MB parts, as that is the main issue to bite back as I found, with only 48k probably not, mine started playing up at 55k?

I have only just received my CL55 back from my garage as I had my second batch of the usual ABC issues and what with the difficulty in finding parts post covid, had to wait 5 months for a refurbished ABC pump, but pleased to have it back finally. So parts are a real challenge at the moment folks for our older cars.

I did have a PSE Pump go fail a few years ago, which caused my central locking to stop working, so could be that? Found a chap who repairs them, so if you need details let me know as still have him in my useful MB contacts list, but I did also add it to an earlier post on this CL Forum.

My CL55 has been returned to me and since stand for 6 months I also have:

- Battery drain
- Water in the boot
- Passenger door not closing fully (so have to slam it)

It's heading back to my garage on Friday to have this all looked at, so I will let you know what they find.

They are gorgeous cars, so enjoy and stay on top of the servicing with a decent Mercedes Indie to save on costs which may take some time to find, but sure other who are London based will be able to suggest some good ones.

Great news all, I have my CL55 AMG back and the ABC issues have been fixed. As I have now practically replaced most of the ABC system over the last few years, hoping that is the last of it as could do with some trouble free motoring for a while.

A few further teething issues since its return as it was stood for 6 months waiting for one part, so having those looked at on Friday.

As per @Liamchurch thread above, I too have:

- water in my boot
- battery drain
- passenger door not closing fully without a slam

Going back in to the garage on Friday for them to check these over and will report back what they say.

Now she is back, hopefully I can post more on here again as I start to enjoy her fully and spring is just around the corner, well hopefully!

On another note Liam, I think your car should be ok in the ULEZ zone. Have you checked?

Hey Matt,
Yeah first thing I checked! I have 2 cars and both are no -ulez compliant.
This one due to age and engine size I guess.

Oh, I went to Autotrader, randomly selected a number plate from a 2003 CL500, input the data into the TFL/ULEZ checker and it says it's fine???
I'm an ex-CL owner and always follow threads etc about them.

Yeah it’s weird. I’ve just run it though TFL again and I would need to pay the charge. But I too found a same year, same engine that said it was fine.
I did query it with TFL but they just said I needed to send them all of the info on both cars which I couldn’t do. Oh well!

Also check the rear light gaskets, took an age to find the cause of my wet boot.

KR Matt :thumb:
Thanks Matt, I will have a good check on all of the suggestions, seemed such a lot of water but it had been stood for some time whilst waiting on parts and drying out now back with me although not out in the open now.
