Morning chaps.

Been a while since i last posted, infact i forgot my old log on details.... So im back to a newbie!! Lol

I have had a good search through the forum but i cant find 100% clarification to my question, and my local Mercedes dealership isnt being particularly helpful.

I took delivery of a 2010 S500L (W221?? Correct me if im wrong) which seems really nice and comfortable to drive, packs a fair punch also so that should keep me entertained once the kids have been dropped off at school. However it does lack on the old ICE side of things. As it currently stands it has a 6 disc changer with SD port along with a USB and RCA (red, yellow, white) in the glove box.
Im more than happy with local radio station when in the region, however i do alot of long journeys from north east to midlands so cant get local FM when not in the area and i desperatly need my ipod.

Im trying to confirm 100% if it is possible to retro fit either a Mercedes or aftermarket unit to allow full ipod intergration (charging of ipod, track controll and title display) to my vehicle?

From what i have found out Mercedes stoped making the interface unit so its discontinued (anyone confirm that?) and my local dealers say it would not be coat effective to do.

So lets take money out of the equation, if i was a multi millionaire and i wiped my bum with £50 notes, and i wanted to fit ipod into my car is it possible? Or should i just get some good quality head phones for my ipod? Lol

Speak to Mark or Richard at comand online , they are the masters of this sort of thing and will be able to give you a definitive answer.

AS above. Highly recommended.

Cheers guys i will do just that.

Looks like it will be an expensive retrofit.....

Anyone got any tips for justifying to the missus?? Lol

There is the option of retrofitting and adding, for example, iPod or Digital Meida Modules (and DAB, TV etc) or you could go aftermarket all-in-one (e.g. Pioneer, Kenwood etc). Recommendation for Alfie & Richard is sound; they retrofitted my Vito and are in line for more work I want doing……….they can also supply.

For full track information you will need the Media Interface; the iPod module allows the iPod to be controlled via steering wheel buttons through and on Comand only; no track info…..both give charging.

Just a little update on my situation.

I have been doing alot of resurch on how to intigrate the ipod to my car, and i had justified the cost to myself and was about to take the plunge..... Untill!!

I actually just pluged in my ipod.

I have an ipod classic and i just plugged it in via a standard ipod lead into the USB socket in the glove box, then after it synced up hey presto it workes fine. I get track listing on the display and track controll via the steering wheel or audio setting. So im chuffed with that as thats exactly what i wanted, the ipod is charging also so im very happy with this now.... And it cost me nothing :)

The display does not recognise the device on the display but just displays "USB" rather than "Ipod" and the ipod screen constantly displays "Syncronizing" but its physically working so thats fine with me.

Hi Tommy, did you find the volume available via the input line much lower than those on the radio/CD?? I have the same problem - plugged in the phone for streaming music and it works however, it's really too quiet without having the amp turned right up, which I'd rather not...
I spoke with Comand in the UK and they don't really have a mod with an in-line booster for the signal - I could fit their ipod kit (at around £800) but I'd still have a problem with the volume although control of the phone would be easier.
Has anyone found a booster that can be recharged in use from the lighter socket and works well in this application? There's a few that seem to do the job with battery power however, it's not too practical with the miles I do...

Answers gratefully received!

Thanks

Paul

there is a inline booster you can buy, check mercupgrades site for part number details

Thanks Alps, will check it out.

Transfer your tunes to USB stick...........

Hi Piff,
Unfortunately, there's no USB connection on this model - I have a good library on the SD card but streaming Deezer is also an enjoyable option to have on a longer trip - we do 4000km in a week a few times a year and even a full SD card can feel a little familiar...!

Just a quick update - I received a Neoteck DAC03 in-line amp for my phone to Aux input socket through the post yesterday - problem solved. All levels now roughly equal between CD/radio/phone streaming/MP3 card. Well worth the 20 Euro and fully recommended to anyone suffering with low input levels into the Aux socket.

May I ask how its fitted?

Does it just fit in the middle of the 3.5 jack cable?

Exactly; phone to booster via supplied 3.5mm jack lead, booster to aux via your own cable, 3.5mm jack to RCA double connector. The Neoteck can also be charged in use from the cigarette lighter with the USB cable supplied.
