....and I thought rattles were a thing of the past when buying a Mercedes!!!

To be fair though, the C63 is so stiff that it's got to be incredibly well made to avoid rattles but there has been one clicking/creaking which has been annoying me since about the 3rd day of ownership.

It sounds like it's coming from just behind the drivers seat, either the B-Pillar or rear passenger door area. So, I shoved the missus in the back to poke around whilst I drove and she assured me it was from the actual drivers seat. Considering the seats have one-piece backs and I couldn't replicate the noise by thumping the seat, I found this hard to believe.

So, today the car went into the dealer for them to look at it. And the result?

It is indeed the seat and is apparently a well known problem with C63 seats. There is apparently a part in the seat that's known to rattle and they need the car for 2 days to strip the seat and fix/replace the part.

Please let this be the problems and the end of it as I hate rattles! It goes in on Monday for the work.

Do any other C63 or W204 owners have problems with rattles/creaks or are they generally pretty durable and well made?

Creaking seats is a well documented issue with numerous MB models. WIS details the correction, usually stripping the seat and fitting felt pads to strategic positions

I'm without my car tonight....it went into to MB today to have the drivers seat rebuilt! I've got to admit, I am stupidly **** about creaks and rattles; especially when I've spent a lot of money on a car.

The C63 is by no means bad and seems to be better made than either the 335i or M3 that I had...it's just not perfect.

Yet!

it'll be interesting to see if MB can manage to fix it first time!

There is a member on here (Alps) who had some sound dampening or something done to his C36's interior that aparently made it rattle-creak proof, i'm being vague about this because i dont know too much about it, but i'm sure if you ask him he may be able to give you some advice!

Bad luck. If it's a "well known" problem with C63's, with the small number of cars sold in the UK, why haven't MB done a recall and fixed /checked these seats before? Not exactly promoting customer satisfaction for such an expensive car.

I didn't say it was a well known problem with C63's

I said it was a well documented issue with numerous MB models..

You bought a C63 and they didn't give you a car to use?

Have to admit that somebody asked me the other day how the E-class compaired to my old E39 BMW 5 Series.....and I said that the build quality it not as good!.

My old 5-series had "M" suspension which I upgraded the springs to eibach and was running on 19" wheels.at low speed with the stereo off etc all you could hear was the creak of the leather when going over bumps!

In the E55 also with 19" wheels and air suspension which one would expect would give a smoother ride etc, the centre of the dash ratttles somewhere...not worked out where yet, theres one from the passenger door area and several from the front seats!:dk:

Considering that even in my cars slightly above base spec it still cost nearly 70k new, so not what you would expect really.

But then BMW dont have it all their own way my Z4 M Coupe had shocking plastics etc inside :wallbash:

And my new Renault company car (and I hate renaults!) doesnt make a sound!!.....well untill the warranty runs out and it'll fall appart like a "clown car" but hey! lol

No you didn't. But the OP did.

It was actually the Mercedes dealer who told me about the seat issue on C63's.

When 'whitenemesis' mentioned it on this thread too, I was happy it seemed a well known and hopefully easy thing to fix!

Alas...that is not the case. They had it for two days, stripped the seat and...the creak is still there. :(

TBH, I'm not sure it is the seat as it sounds more like it's coming from the rear compartment somewhere (rear door or roof lining area) but the car seems just so well built and solid that I cannot replicate the noise by banging/slapping/pressing any part of the interior. :wallbash:

I'm going to try and enjoy the car despite the noise and when it goes into MB for the 1800 mile diff oil change I'll get them to have a look at it again.

Mate, I'm exactly the same when it comes to rattles etc.

Fortunately, I do not seem to have any.

But try to chill...
I'd also suggest trying to remedy/ identify the problem yourself before having a dealer pull it apart.
My old 208 had a little squeak that I couldn't find for ages.
Turns out it was just the button on one of the seat belt clasps.

Either way, it's not choas. Like you say, enjoy the car.

P.S..
Just wait until you start accummulating stone chips around the front end after some "enthusiastic" driving!

LOL.

Get someone to sit in the back and search while you drive, shouldn't be short of volunteers!

Funnily enough...I've just had my front bumper protected by Paintshield. It's like...erm...a mobile phone screen protector for your car!! LOL.

Basically, it's a clear plastic film that is stuck to the front of the car and stops stone penetrating the paint. You really can hardly see it; indeed, some people have their whole car covered in it (a bit expensive though as the bumper cost over £400. Also, a bit extreme doing the whole car as the front bumper is the area that gets hit the most).

I'll try and get some photo's this weekend so you can see just how...well, how you can't see it!

MB are applying this as standard on some new models, especially on the leading edge of the rear arches. Looks ok until the wax build up on the join shows up the join

Where did you post the pics - I'd be interested in seeing this. I'm new here and jsut got my 2nd hand C63 a short while ago, what a crazy car!

Hi and welcome to the forum! Wow...this thread was a long time ago...so long ago in fact that my opinion of the product has changed somewhat.

I had the Paintshield on my first (black) C63 and that was pretty much invisible to start with. After a while though, it did start to lift at the edges which showed up on the back car very noticeably. I went back to Paintshield who put it down to the harsh winter and they changed it for free. I then sold the car about 3 weeks later!

Moving onto my white C63, I had the film fitted within a week of getting the car. About 8 weeks after that, I'd already gone back to Paintshield to have it replaced due to a stone penetrating it - they stood by their warranty and changed it.

Moving on a few months, I have only just last week removed it from the car! I was really getting to hate the product and there were a few things that indicate that it's not really suited to a white (or light) coloured car...

  • It looks slightly yellow in comparison to the rest of the car
  • As time went on, it picked up dirt on the edges which I couldn't get rid of totally so on a white car, you could see the edge of the film very clearly
  • Dead insects stain the film and nothing seems able to remove it. I tried bug and tar remover, various cutting/cleaning polish's including some quite abrasive and mopping it with a rotary....yet the red/orange coloured remains of the insects stuck resolutely to the film.
Most of this was likely also on the black car but wasn't not noticeable but I'd had enough of seeing a stained front bumper and I'm now glad to have a nice film-free bumper.

Much as the service offered by Paintshield was exemplary, I really ended up hating the product itself so won't be having it again. In fact, I'd rather have my bumper resprayed every year or so than have the film back on the car!
