The Carbon itch...

Is it to be shown on Saturday if the BW meet is still on?

I'll take time to get it all installed on Friday. Once I know all is well, I'm good to go.

Not sure if there are many takers for meeting up on Saturday though.

May have to postpone if not many people are around :dk:

I saw that as well. Probably not enough interest now until September. :-(
Still, if it is fitted I'm happy to meet up and take a look :-)

I bet its a front splitter :D

Theres one on eBay at the moment, very rare for the 63 front bumper

Guarantee it won't be for the 63 front bumper.

Many companies advertise splitters for the 63 bumper when in fact it will be for the 55 bumper.

People have put splitters on the 63 bumper but the splitters don't follow the lines of the 63 bumper.

Can't find any companies that actually make a splitter for the 63 bumper.

Package arrived earlier this morning....

Won't have a chance to test-fit it until after work but I have had a peek...

Looks awesome.... Just the nervous bit now of finding out if it fits well..

Ok, so package arrived earlier today.

Renntech's new, Version3 carbon fibre intakes for the M156 engine.

10 house points to BenzedUP ;)

A year or so back, I bought the Carbonio CF air boxes but they were really badly made
They had actual holes in it in some places (), the finish was really poor and the rectangular holes for the MAF's looked like they had been drilled out by a 4yr old!

Not to mention the fact that Carbonio CF products turn a nasty yellow because the clear coat they use cannot stand up to the heat of an engine bay.

Needless to say, I sent them back sharpish!

So, the only products that look the part and reportedly don't turn yellow are the Renntech products.

Costs more (alot more!) but definitely the way to go if you're looking for attractive CF.

Olly at PCS was very kind in helping me source this product. Thanks very much for your patience Olly! Much appreciated :thumb:

I cleaned the intakes down earlier and took some pics before heading out to the garage to fit it.

Got 90% of the way through removing the stock bits and pieces and was then halted by the stock Y-piece intake at the back of the engine.

I just can't get my hands to the bloody thing to remove it

It's clipped in place by a clip on each side of the oval inlet and I just can't get to them :wallbash:

So, I've had to put the car back to normal for now until I can get some help removing the Y-piece.

I'm not going to get carried away. I'll just wait until I can get some help.
I should have someone coming over tomorrow evening to help.

First impressions, very well made indeed. The carbon weave is flawless and really does look awesome. It's quite a chunky piece of art too. The tubes coming off the 2 filter chambers are alot bigger than Renntech's Version2 intakes. Really is a beautiful piece of carbon fibre. Very light too, as you can imagine.

Just need to fit it to make sure it fits properly but this is certainly a vast improvement on their Version2 intakes so I don't anticipate any issues that I can see.

They come with BMC filters which I will try out.

I have a spare engine cover which I have had sprayed gloss black to better match the CF of the new intakes.

I'll get some more pics up when I have finally fitted it!

Insane! Congrats :-)

Are these any better than stock intake performance wise?

Very nice.

What sort of power gain do they claim from them.

Alex, my good man!

Thanks for your post bud :thumb:

Renntech say that these intakes flow air better. They come with BMC filters which should help any improvements in air flow.

Renntech claim increases of up to 10hp and around 5lbs ft of torque but I'm not paying much attention to this.

I bought it for the looks. I love the way the 2 tubes rise off the two filter chambers, merge and then swoop down the back of the engine!

I will get my car tweaked soon to see if they can squeeze anything more from my car following my recent exhaust work. If these intakes help, great. If not, no bother.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do they improve power? Couldn't they just be made out of plastic?

Hey Andy :thumb:

I believe Renntech are claiming up to 10hp and around 5lbs ft of torque.

I'm sure it was something like that.

They argue these intakes deliver the air to the engine more efficiently while carrying a greater volume of air. Dare I say, high flow filters do most of this work.

But forget the claims, look at the thing!:rock: lol!

1) I'm sure Renntech have an email address....

2) .... yeah, 'cause plastic is reeeeal sexy!
