I logged in looking for my issue and your question was somewhat relevant. My light came on at the weekend and the engine has two new behaviours.
At low or know trottle it will intermittently surge or pulse.
And now I have no kickdown and the engine is limited to about 2750 revs
CLK 270 cdi auto
It could be many things causing it so no good guessing, just get it on a diagnostics machine and turn the light off then see if it comes back on.
fix the fault
The Check Engine light is there for a reason. Something has gone wrong.
Take it to either a Mercedes dealer (expensive) or a good independent (better value, use the forum search function on the Mercedes specialists across the UK forum). They will put it on a STAR computer (MB's own diagnostic system) and give you the good news

what is kickdown? I am not professional with that.do you have kickdown or no kickdown?
i had the no kickdown issue... it was put into the diagnostics machine and it said that the emissions from the DPF was 2 high and the mechanic said to drive in the motorway for about 30 miles with a constant speed over 60mph..
i did that and the DPF' regenerated' so it started working normally again...
if not fixed it could be the MAP sensor or DPS

true...bottom line: withouth a diagnostic we will just be guessing what it is... get it plugged into STAR it will be £30 well spent ... well it was for me
If you followed the link I gave in post #7, you'll already know P0411 is caused by this.
