The dreaded engine management light

So I've managed to get the car in for a diag. at my local main dealer (GULP!!) tomorrow. Hopefully this will give me at least an indication of the cause of the problem, and from there I can decide whether or not to let them fix it, a good indy, or indeed me.

Got the car in to the main dealer today, and they've diagnosed the problem. Something to do with some pipework and electronic valves that go into the inlet manifold. I'll have a better picture of the exact diagnosis when I pick the car up this afternoon.

Grand total for the work, apparently, is about £260, which I'm pretty relieved at, TBH, as I was fearing the worst (as a lot of people do), a much bigger bill. Phew!

Good job I didn't waste any money on coil packs and a MAF:eek:

:)

Which item would be required for a 52plate W163 3.2 petrol?

I'd ask talktomycar, but it's almost certainly got OBDII so there should be a suitable one.
I think the U381 is a suitable device.

Had the work done, all paid, and it ran perfectly for about 35 miles, then....................

The blessed warning light came back on again, very frustrating indeed. Just been told that this time it's the o2 sensor (lambda) that's gone, and the replacement's going to be a further £280 to rectify.

I can't believe it:crazy:

I'm pretty sure it'll be something I can do myself - especially if someone can point me in the direction of the correct part number, and a rough location or 'how-to' guide.

I'll resurrect this post then, to keep you all informed of my progress:)

Hello

Kwikfit diagnosed that on my previous C Class, 53 plate & prob at 40k miles, fully serviced car. they charged 240 to fix & 30 quid to diagnose - seems like a common fault:(

What is the fault code , bet its p2036 . If it is this code then they will through parts at the car until they get to the air rec. flap . it will most likely be this part that is the problem . Expect them to change the Check valve , Lambda , Air shut off valve then Air rec. flap .

Shorty, it sounds like you've had some experience of this??? And what you're saying is pretty much along the lines of how my story's going. Who/how fixed yours in the end?

To be honest, they showed me a big long list of faults, and I tried really hard to remember the numbers of some of the faults, but no chance, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the help:)

Im lucky enugh to have access to DAS in work and I ran the car on it when the prob first appeared and got code p2036 . After some serching I decided to change the check valve first because this is a service item . When this had no affect I ran DAS again and I reckoned that it is the Air rec flap . I only got the flap today so I will fit it and that should sort the prob out . From what I have read when a stealer gets a car with this code they start changing parts until it is fixed and it allways seams that when this part is changed the car is fixed .

Check those pipes

I had a similar problem with my engine light,
Ollie found it was a small rubber vacum pipe that runs to the bottom of the turbo that had a small hole in due to chaffing.

Many thanks ollie:bannana: :bannana:

Let me know how you get on with that, and I'll try the same thing out myself, if it seems to cure the problem. Do you have the part number for the Air Rec. Flap that you mention?

Thanks:)

Im still wating for tha part to come , should have it tomorrow , when I get it fitted I will keep you updated

Hey Mercurial , I have not been on line for a few weeks , the lap top died . Im still wating for the part , my local breaker cant find one as Im looking in the UK for one , hopefully ill have it by the weekend

I got the part for the car last weekend and fitted it yesterday . The car is going fine now , although it had started running fine yesterday before i changed the air flap , time will tell if the car is sorted , but i reckon it will be fine now .Gonna put it on STAR on monday at work and clear the stored faults and turn off the engine light .

Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor (2002) Fault Code P0702

Hi Guys,

I have checked the forums and many seems to have this fault but not sure how to deal with it. Car has been running on Limp Mode, with the Engine management light on for the last few days.

It's in the garage now. The fault code of P0702 was given. Gear box has been serviced with oil change and new filter but the problem still exists.

Any help would be appreciated. Got the car for dad and it's in the garage, not really helping in the cold weather.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys and girls.

Hello & welcome to the forum,if you look at the start of this thread a list of fault codes has been postedby another forum member(the fault code you refer to shows as transmission control system electrical fault).Best bet is to get the car into a good independent mb specialist to get therepair done & fault code(s) cleared, good luck;)
