The E63 I now own.

Shouldn't this have been picked up during the recent service though?

Not necessarily. The car has to be at the correct working temperature for stop/start to operate. If the engine was cold before the service commenced stop start wouldn't be checked.
Can’t it be disabled in C mode by pressing the ECO button?
Yes it can. Mine is mostly in S+ which as you know disables it too.

Yes it is inoperative when cold .. but isn't a battery test part of the service / heath check

I don't know. If it isn't, it should be.
The health check video I was sent during my B2 service showed the inspection of the underside, discs and pads , tyres, exhaust and suspension components. Nothing regarding battery condition.

Yes, I too have numerous vids of them eyeballing discs and pads as well as kicking tyres

I ordered a physical MB service booklet for my own personal peace of mind as well being able keeping a record of my own additional items on top of the electronic record. The service list is printed on this and a battery test is part of all the services A or B.
Caveat..the service booklet might be from the ol days...

Pulled fuse or borked battery- I’d like to know why it doesn’t work. The dealer said they’d pay for me to fix it locally, which I suspect means the local MB place to diagnose why it’s not working.

The brakes are very good, engine is great, stereo isn’t as good as the C55.

I love the adaptive headlights, the suspension modes are fun, I’ve not tried the various transmission modes yet.

Anyone know how to turn the volume up for the sat nav announcer?

Turn the volume up whilst the satnav is issuing an instruction.

Replaced AUX battery in mine in 2 mins. Battery was ~£95 from dealer - had to be ordered in - cheaper than Eurocarparts and the right one!

Fob batteries - buy decent Panasonic ones and change in about 30 seconds - once you know how to pop the cover LOL £5 for 2 batteries at most

I've ordered some Duracell CR-2025's which should be here on Monday, I watched a YouTube video on replacing the batteries and it is very simple.

Is there a diagnostic menu that I can access that will tell me if the aux battery is borked?

If the stop start isn't working and brake hold is intermittent then that's proof enough..
Mine was 5 years which seems an average in colder climates...
Satisfying job done in 2 minutes. Honest!

There are so many reasons that the start/stop may not be working that the list could fill pages, however...

As others have already suggested, the single most likely reason is that one or both the batteries are "tired". My experience is that once they are like that no amount of driving around will raise the charge sufficiently to get the system working reliably, but if you put the car on a charger for a few hours start/stop will work until the battery / batteries discharge a bit once again.

Another reason is low ambient temperature. If the aircon is on (as it normally will be) then start/stop wouldn't engage on either of my E63's if the ambient temperature was - from memory - 5c or lower. In those conditions, if I turned the aircon off then the ECO indicator would instantly turn green and start/stop would work.

FWIW, the start/stop system worked flawlessly on my pre-facelift car, but would go into a sulk on my facelift car for days on end and then decide to work reliably for a while for no discernible reason. While it was under warranty the dealer had multiple attempts to fix it which involved replacing both batteries - the aux battery more than once - changing various sensors and even replacing the gearbox auxiliary oil pump (which did solve the issue of start/stop turning off the engine as it should but then shortly afterwards disengaging and the engine firing up again), but it was never really right on that car.

Golly. Well, the dealer said he’d pay to fix it, let’s see if that extends that far!

I believe you are missing the easy pack fixing kit as well as the storage crate. The collapsible crate sits in the large square void and the rest of the bits around it. Unfortunately far too common a site, it being removed before changing hands, assuming it was there to begin with! Here is a link to simplify what I mean....

Some dealers and other sellers ask £30+ for the collapsible crate. Not this one though:

On mine that’s where the easy-pack load kit stuff lived - there was a collapsible black plastic basket and some other stuff IIRC. But I don’t think you’ve got that option on yours (I can’t see the aluminium channels that run either side from front to back as per the picture below)

I have not got the channels/tracks- instead I have tie-down points.

The tracks look more flexible, can they be retrofit?

If you’ve not got the channels then I’d probably leave it.

Anything is retro-fittable really, but the cost/hassle may be more than it’s worth? :)

Sad thing is - I never used mine once!
