The E63 I now own.

Are the right exhaust tips sooty and not straight on the black car ?

I'd not be too put off by the first car as mine sat at the dealer for about four months before being listed and was owned by them during that time.
In an ideal world a full service history is nice but the reality is that you've no idea what went on with any car prior to your ownership.

I'll not start on dealerships as mine is an expample of full service history not amounting to much at all.

But I would get everything changed immediately on any used purchase. Oil, tranny oil, filters, brake fluid , sparks....the lot.

Overkill, maybe but then you know it's been done with the right stuff and your ownership can start.

My advice would be to wait for the right car, even if that means holding onto the C55 for a few more weeks or buying an inexpensive stopgap that will sell on easily once you’re done.

Patience is definitely required if you want a nice AMG, but it’s well worth it in my experience. You strike me as a caring owner who looks after his cars, so I’d not rush into an average one that you have doubts over.

I waited a good while for my last E63 wagon to appear - a nicely specced car with designo paint, and luxury pack interior, full MB service history (every year from new, even though in one instance it had covered less than 100 miles)

It was an 11k miler and to be perfectly honest wasn’t all that much more expensive than the average cars that are often available for average money.

I really liked it but moved it on last year as I needed a bit more space and went up to a GL. Even then I had to wait several months for the GL, but to be fair E63 wagons are more plentiful in supply.

The E is a much better drive in my opinion. The GL (same platform as the ML) has got space and a nice driving position but for the sorts of journeys you have planned I’d stick with an E-class estate. Don’t get me wrong I love my GL63 but the E63 drives really well and I’d I’m not have changed if I didn’t need the extra seats and space

ML63 is 690/2,010 litres of luggage space, E63 is 640/1,820, so that’s definitely food for thought. I have to say I prefer an estate though.
They certainly won’t handle as sharply as a saloon or estate, but it’s not like the E63 is a track weapon anyway, they’re hot rod cruisers really.

Worth a look if your options are limited on the right car.

So, reviewing what we have, and bearing in mind that I need a car for Christmas that isn't my 911, do people think the white car in Essex?
It's had a less than perfect bodywork repair on it. There’s a distinct gap twixt the front bumper and wing clearly visible in the photo of the right-hand side, and the OSF wing looks to be a slightly different colour to the rest of the car. Designo Diamond White paint is incredibly difficult to colour match.

Good advice here, I wouldn't touch the first car due to the missing service records.
If that is a mistake then up to the vendor to fix this first before worth looking at again.

Don't underestimate missing service records, bad MOT history and many owners on an expensive AMG, will put off lots of buyers.

The perfect car usually comes along right after you buy the one you think is perfect. ;)

The white car has sold, which is a lesson to me here- check the car is still for sale before starting to consider it!

looks like the black (KN16ZFG) car sat on the dealers forecourt for the period of time during which it should have had its first MOT, then got MOT’d on sale.

I won’t buy that one unless the owner can correct the service record- otherwise that will be a millstone tied around the neck of the car no matter it’s condition.

It is looking rather like I shall be driving a Skoda Superb estate (or similar) for a while.

I’d seen that but the mileage seemed high and the toy list somewhat short.

I think I'd wait for the right one to come up and stick with your current steed until then (or buy a stop-gap car you can sell on easily).

That silver one you found looks nice and is an S apparently (https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202011296594429).

Not sure it has the reversing camera you wanted.

Also, higher mileage but better spec. Has the 360 camera and dynamic seats.

ohhhh,

Comand can fit the reversing camera for ~£700, so that’s not a deal breaker. But I worry slightly that lack of options harms resale?

Options, does depend on what is important for you but I personally don't use any on mine like lane assist , head light assist etc they're just gimmicks.....Distronic is the only thing I'd like to have a go with, more out if interest .

Ventilated seats are nice though and the emergency brake assist has come into play once or twice which was great .

Silver car is pretty tasty but is it sitting low on the rear ?
I get two fingers on mine between the tyre and the wheel arch

Has the silver S got the correct wheels? I thought the ‘S’ came with the (expensive!) forged 19s not the standard multispokes?

Is there a good way to tell that it’s an S?

Owner of the black car has an email from MB confirming that first service did happen, at MB Brooklands in 2017. The MOT lapsed whilst the car was sat on the dealers forecourt.

The KN16 registration indicates it was a demonstration car for a time. That may account for the question of numbers of owners.

I would pass on this one if I were looking for an E63 estate.
For a car of this value, an incomplete service history would bother me.
Hi, just coming back to this- could I ask about the KN16ZFG indicating that it was a demo car? The owner of the vehicle says it just meant it was registered in Maidstone.
