The E63 I now own.

I’m going to be selling this car in the next couple of months, Motorway have said £29,000 which is (being transparent) more than I paid for it- such are the times we live in.

Anyway- should a member want it I’d rather it went to them, so give me a shout.

I’m buying a new VW T6 to drag the bikes around in, and will look for an older V8 Mercedes to go with it.

But in the mean time I need to treat the car to a service A- are all Mercedes Dealers the same rough price and value for this, or is their a variance? I’d likely drop it into MB Guildford if they’re all the same.

Guildford would/should be cheaper than other London based dealers (lower labour rates and a discount on parts for older cars, not sure on what age your E63 is though)

You can get a quote online at www.mymercedesservice.co.uk

Guildford offered me a courtesy car FOC last time and have always given great service, so they got the work (cost wasn’t an issue for me as it was already paid for via a service plan)

Thanks Will, I shall book in with them.

My camper/MTB van has been delayed until January/February so the E63 will be taking me skiing next year, I’m going to have a nasty surprise finding snow qualified tyres large enough I suspect!

You might find it easier/better sourcing a set of 18s for the winter tyres.

I had a set on my E63 which ran 255/40/18s all round. Better choice of tyres and possibly more suited to winter/snow use than the usual wider rears on 19s?

Keep an eye on eBay - they are quite rare but do come up from time to time. I sold mine to another member on here with a facelift 212 E63 and I think he was going to and from Europe throughout the winter. Always handy to have a spare set of wheels/tyres too! :)

Some tyre sizes have limited availability but I have always managed to find winter tyres in the right fitmemts without a problem - the key is to buy them earlier in the season in case they sell out in an unusual size and there’s no further production planned that season.

The car has 19” Pirelli Sotto Zero on at the moment- because I switched it to the winter wheels I bought for it last year and then never put it back on the summers, which are essentially brand new on OEM wheels, sat in my garage.

I’m just a little concerned that I won’t have the 4mm of tread depth required by the gendarmerie- so will need to check that, and then see if we can still get Sotto Zero in this brave new world.

Just dropped the car off, service person says that if the fault isn’t the battery then they’ll charge me £120 for running the diagnostic. Which presumably means that if they misdiagnosed it last time and just threw a new battery in without fixing whatever killed the last one then I’ll be on the hook for the diagnostic charge, another battery and fixing the actual problem.
Fingers crossed that Mercedes batteries are total crap I guess.
I also asked them to check that the seats were functioning as expected, but the chap didn’t seem to understand what I was asking them to do so unsure what’s going to happen there.
Use an independent. They generally remove all that BS. You get to talk to the tech thats actually doing the work. Sometimes they are not easy to diagnose for a seemingly simple fault whoever is tasked with the job. Independent MB specialists on the whole will not BS.

I did it for 2 years on my previous car.
They're still rubber, just don't throw it about.
Winter tyres in summer, are better than summer tyres in winter, when you have more power than you need.

With over 600hp I’d be buying summer tyres, not like you want to be flying around in pouring rain or worse is it? I personally adjust my driving to suit on my C63, just so I don’t write the car off in the inclement months!

I run my cars on summers year round as a rule but I'm quite sure there's a plethora of YouTube videos demonstrating how stupid I am for doing this 😁
