I finally got around to calling Elephant to tell them I had moved house. I was pleasantly surprised when the lady informed me that my current annual premium was going to drop by £760! I didn’t imagine the drop would be that large.

I used to live in a quite nice neighbourhood (Dulwich Village) and was a little bit shocked that it’s viewed as a high risk area.

The insurance quote for the E63S is far less eye watering now too. Hooray!

The risk is calculated based on claims history in the area.

Sometimes a small quiet village is a better place for thieves to steal cars from, especially when the population is a bit more affluent and likely to have more cars of the much-coveted MB AMG / BMW Mx / Audi Sx variety.

The thing is, Dulwich Village isn’t actually a village. It’s just a poncy name for a poncy suburb in south east London. Sure it’s a bit nicer than surrounding areas, but it’s still surrounded by Camberwell, Peckham, Brixton, Forest Hill and Norwood.

Where I have moved to is a village, and it seems every car is a Range Rover Autobiography.

Anyway, I’m not going to complain. The wife is thrilled at the saving, and she’s letting me buy a new TV!

I understand that where I live, in South Somerset, is the cheapest insurance area in the country.
I could insure my car nearly 4 years, for the money the OP saved on his policy!

It’s one of the things I am going to check before moving house from now on... car insurance, broadband speed, water pressure, nearby Waitrose, and making sure there are no Labour or UKIP voters nearby.

I moved further up the road (5 min walk) and my premium went up.

I queried it with the Insurance Co and they said there had been an accident there some years ago.
I knew about this as it was my parents car that was T-boned, as they turned left, by a following driver mounting the pavement after having a heart attack.

They didn't claim, 3rd party paid out but it still goes against that postcode. Ridiculous.

Insurance Co's. Pah. They make up their own rules.

I just had a look through the updated policy docs, compared them to the old ones, and realised that I’ve had it specified that I’d be parking the car overnight on the street! I’ve been with Elephant for 7 years, so it must have been like this all along. Anyway, another quick call to them to switch it to “locked garage” and my premium reduced by another £80. That’s a years subscription to razzle paid for.

Half way through my new car insurance last year our insurance address moved from Ashford in Kent, north to Louth in Lincolnshire and got a refund of about 20%. The car was still parked on a drive, so the main change was postcode.
