The EV fact thread

Outrageous isn't it. Legitimate human activity in this nations capital - ban it all!. Still clears the path for a future controlled by AI where human activity is surplus to requirements.
Will AI control all humans, or will it just control all humans except for the elite, illuminati, Bill Gates, Chinese EV manufacturers, big pharma, members of the WHO and “they”, who together will control the AI?

If so then I’m going to give up my iPhone for a Windows phone, drive an Ora Funky Cat, get a part-time job at Boots, offer my services as a backing vocalist to Roger, and change my pronoun to make extra sure that I’m in the winning team

However, my point is that there are good reasons why people might want to change their cars every 3-4 years, and it's not just vanity.

I can understand not wanting to put family members in lap belts, but it's a big leap from replacing a 23 year old car with hardly any safety features to replacing a 3 year old one which is going to be pretty much identical to current models (and arguably more reliable - any issues relating to manufacturing defects will likely have surfaced by then, but the car is too young for wear & tear to be an issue). As far as I can see the main reason for replacing cars that often is simply that the lease has expired?

Specifically for EVs there's a stronger case for frequent replacement as the performance in terms of range, efficiency, charging time, etc. is steadily improving. Perhaps another reason why they're typically leased.

Artificial Intelligence is the development of computer systems capable of performing tasks that historically required human intelligence, such as recognizing speech, making decisions, and identifying patterns. Making much of human activity redundant is therefore a certain consequence of widespread AI adoption. Which is currently happening.

Your chosen term -control of humans, and your little segue into conspiracy!, is a nonsense, a diversion from the reality that AI will replace much of human activity.

Someone is seeing that the numbers are not adding up on this particular type of EV .

If it was less ugly it might help!!! I would not like it any more if it had a M156 under the bonnet!

What do 'Space Odyssey 2001' and '1984' have in common?

Hint: We're already in 2024.... and they are both fictional.

Both also contain important Metaphors- as do the best fairie tales-the mistake is to take them literally!

I suppose you also consider Israels documented use of artificial intelligence to select bombing targets in Gaza as fictional?

No, it's not fictional at all, and I consider it as an example of AI put to use to minimise civilian casualties. Would you prefer that we stick with the good old carpet bombing, ala Hamburg and Dresden? No, me neither.

I suspect that it's being overhyped to the point it is effectively a fictional over a mundane layer of truth.

For the Israelis the hype will be a useful distraction to other activities being used to identify and prioritise targets.

So now if I buy an EV, but need to drive to the south of France/Morocco/Timbuktu without stopping and without any charge stations, Lexus has a solution.

I read it, but didn't quite understand it.

If you buy a Lexus, they'll also give you one on loan when you want it? I.e. for when you need TWO cars - is that the idea? Otherwise why would you need a second car in addition to the one that you just bought?

I’ve just skim read it so far.
Aiui they are taking away the range anxiety if you need to do a couple of longer trips a year, by giving you free use of a hybrid.
Might also be handy if you are on a restricted mileage pcp/lease.

Edit: sorry, Morocco and Timbuktu are out. UK and Europe only.
Such a disappointment.

It's simple. They are acknowledging that purchasers might think that a pure EV would not be ideal for very long trips so they will lend you something "more suitable" in the form of a hybrid once or twice per year. They are trying to sell EV's by an attempt to overcome some customers range anxiety on the odd long holiday trip.

It's quite clever. They know people think that an EV would be ideal 99% of the time but worry about about that rare long trip.

Got it. I didn't realise the cars you needed to buy in ordee to be eligible for this deal are pure EVs. Thanks for the clarification.

Bit like the EV car racing where they swap cars halfway through the race instead of 'refuelling' ...or a 90 minute re charge pitstop 🤷‍♂️
