About 3 years ago a large corregated lump of the flat roof of my shop blew off and smacked into a parked car. Nobody was about and it didn't look like there was any damage (but it was dark !!!!! ) I quickly chucked it back on my roof and intended to sort out the next day. Completely forgot about it and FF 3 years.

Sitting in my shop yesterday I hear a massive bang, go out the front and the same sheet has blown off again, hit the roof of my car (owned for 1 week)

3 X 6 inch scratches in the roof and a 2 inch scratch on the top of one of the doors

Bugger bugger bugger :)

I once attended a breakfast lecture (1980s thing) where the speaker was talking about life in general. His view was that in life, we stand in a circle and pass stuff to the person next to us - whatever you pass on eventually comes back.

I've always remembered him and wondered what he must have done to others.

He'd been in a motorbike crash where the petrol tank burst and his face and hands were terribly burned & he was completely disfigured. He recovered from that and started learning to fly - crashed the plane and snapped his spine and ended up in a wheel chair. Made his living doing motivational talks.

There was a post on this forum - please don't ask me when or by whom - by a member who remembered his school teacher , who all the boys were scared of because of his appearance - eventually our correspondent was dared to go up and ask him how he came to be 'like that' . The teacher confided that he had been a WWII fighter pilot and had been shot down , resulting in terrible burns . never returning quite to normality , had served out his time as a navigator , then became a teacher ( if memory serves , of mathematics ) .

I , too , had a teacher , of English , Megan Munro , who most in the school thought of as something of a tyrant , but really she was a lovely lady , afflicted by a loss of sight in her latter years . Not sure how , but the story came out that her betrothed had been one of 'the few' in WWII who never returned from a mission . She never looked elsewhere and eventually passed away as 'a spinster' . She was such a clever, talented and intelligent lady ; I owe her so much - not least me becoming first in English in my school year - that I have the utmost respect for her .

I never learned her ultimate fate , since I left school and moved on , but I sincerely hope she was reunited with her true love in the afterlife .

What contractor?

Sorry Del, which contractor?
I have no idea , whoever PMP employed to replace his roof ?

Arguably , if they had done a proper job it wouldn't have happened ...

Perhaps more bother than its worth ?

I thought I didn't believe in Karma but sometimes the way things play out makes me doubt that disbelief - including things that I've done and then had good luck or bad luck.

You could argue those things would happen anyway I suppose but one of life's amusements (or not!) nevertheless.

I think he did it himself...

I was given a Ford radio/cassette for my 1979 VW Scirocco.

It must have been bent but my lust for better sounding music overtook me.

The Ford unit was stolen from me via a broken side window.

I bought an electric toothbrush in the pub at the same time and didn't get my teeth punched in so karma might be selective?

Was your electric toothbrush a Braun Flex Integral ? With the Porsche 911 as the raffle prize ?

That might have been the problem ?

"It must have been bent" ..... No : Marie Fredriksson ( of Roxette ) , who I liked a lot ( I had a preponderance for slim , gap-toothed , young ladies of that era ( when I too was young and slim , but also no longer ) had the song " It must have been love " , made famous in the move 'Pretty Woman' .

Time , alas , is merciless to us all .
