I worked in Malta up until 12 months ago and whilst there went to Italy on holiday - Pisa/Tuscany/Sienna etc - and had a fantastic time.

Imagine my surprise when the post arrived today and there were 2 letters advising me that I had infringed the Italian Highway code by ' circulating in restricted traffic zone with out authorisation. Electronic recording of access to restricted zone.
I can check the photos on a web site which won't let me in and I have to appeal or pay €113.00 per offence within 60 days or cost goes up to €185.50 each :mad::mad:.
So do I pay up and be free to go back or do I ignore and wait for an extradition order to arrive???

Sounds like a scam to me, there certainly have been quite a few reports of such scams with purported fines. You obviously know best where you have driven and whether or not you are likely to have committed an offence, but it sounds dodgy to me.

If in doubt, why not check with the embassy whether or not this is real or even call the (purported) issuing authority?

I'd also be suspicious that it is a scam. We had another thread about this very recently.

Some very sophisticated techniques being used by scam artists now with very believable paperwork. Whats the web site?

Well, this site seems to suggest it could be genuine. I'd check with the embassy or the issuing authority to make sure it's for real first.

It is genuine...

From that site, i dont know how i got away with it... possibly the out of town parking saved my butt

Firenze Map
Pisa Zones

Most Italian cities are not adapted to huge volumes of vehicular traffic and efforts have been made one way or another to reduce this volume. In Florence and Pisa (and many other towns) there are a number of zones covering the historical and hotel district where cars with special permits only may enter. The cars rented out by car rental agencies do not have these permits. You must therefore take the necessary steps to obtain an exemption each day you drive to your hotel within a restricted zone.
