C63’s very common ‘round this way - usually blacked out, seats horizontal, driven like cranked out on meth! You would have to be very wary buying a used one! I doubt an S63 would get the same treatment though.

Sounds to me like you bought a badly maintained, driven very hard CL. Welcome to the club. I am of the opinion that the repair costs and hassle is not worth it. I am surprised you didn't need suspension arms yet.

I agree with Mike. I bought mine because I wanted V8 forever and thought the 55 great value. My driving style is mechanically sympathetic, with the occasional blast when on the right roads and in the mood.

Hopefully you can get it to a point where it starts giving to you rather than the other way round. I always count on at least the purchase price again over 5 years. And if it’s still eating the cash by then I get rid.

Buying a (AMG) car with~90k on odometer is bound to be fraught to with issues. There are those few people who will buy a car with the intent of "keeping it forever" and will nurse it along and only need to replace tyres every 10 years and lie in bed every night dreaming about how much money they have saved. Yes, their cars will be good but, they are few and far between.
However will "Mr Average" buy an AMG (especially a used one) because.........he wants to be mechanically sympathetic with an occasional blast......? I doubt it.

Im mr Average in this scenario! However being mechanicaly sympathetic has its drawbacks as i want every tiny niggle fixed, things that dont bother most bother me, like the central prop bearing, it didnt NEED changing, it was just looking a little tired and for the sake of £200 i just had it chaged

Incidentally John, I don't know whether you pursued a replacement fridge but the one advertised in the Uk has had the wiring cobbled together. It should have a 2 pin plug which will fit the socket in your car. You can buy the right plug from MB -it's not much- but you'll have to be careful and check on your socket on the bulkhead which side is positive and which negative so you get the wiring on the new plug the right way round.

Yeh i saw that one but sayed away from it for that reason. There are loads in germany, for much less money too. My german friend is collecting one for me in a few weeks. Got it for £190. Surprisingly in germany its common to taae options OFF a ar when they sell them on, ive even got a heated steering wheel coming where the owner took it off and replaced it with a secind hand one. Granted it was much more than the fridge!

Horatio the 1st thing i did when i was looking for one was get a couoke of quotes for a FULL engine rebuild using uprated parts where possible and a top end rebuild using SLS Black series parts!To be honest buying a car like that, I would say you had a result! Had a longer list of TLC to get through on my humdrum CLK after buying.
When you have work like this to do you can start whinging
I think some may of taken this post out of context. I wasnt moaning about the car, i love it, and having grown up arround classic cars im a form believer in keeping the older cars on the road. One day when everyone has an electric silent car ill have a V8 CL in good condition!
I do still however need to find someine who can fix the seat bolster
