The lost art of meaurement wording.

Those from Armadale would recognise..'a wee tate' but i've never lost the "baw-hair". Don't like metric.

.

Is this similar a similar to a wee daud?

When asking about torque settings for any given fastener, I was usually told to nip it up to 'just before it breks'

This is a load of Twaddle !

As everybody knows Twaddle is a unit measure of specific gravity - true.

On the other hand... when cooking while following a recipe... I never quite understood the 'add to taste' bit. I am cooking a dish I never had before, for a group of people who are clearly not me, I don't know what the dish is supposed to taste like and if I add lemon or salt or pepper or any other herb, how do I know my guests will share my 'taste'?

I love it when the media says.." an area the size of Wales.." Who TF knows the area of Wales off the top of their heads ? (cue some smart ar~e on here telling us EXACTLY the size of Wales) , or better still "the weight of a Jumbo Jet.." Which variant ? cargo or passenger ? SUD ? or Air Force one ? Full or empty ? All meaningless Bo770ck's.

"OK son , just plane a Hen's C**t off that door and I am sure we will get in to fit."

When my dad was asked how big a slice of cake he wanted, he would always answer “Just a wee scliff”

Never heard the measurement used before or since, so I’m guessing it is some sort of Weegie avoirdupois.

The International Units of Measurement for height is the `Nelsons Column`.
Weight is `fully grown elephant`, and distance (when related to a motor vehicle) is `to the moon and back`.

There are two knats whiskers to a smidge.
A `tad` is four smidgeons, or just under a knats bollock.
If you have to adjust something a `bit`, your miles out - not even in the ballpark..

Something like Jeremy Beadle can hold an IPad in one hand and an IPad mini in the other and you couldn’t tell.

They used to call him 'The Clock'.

Is it true the first Merlins were built from drawings with no tolerances as we know them today, and that was left to the builders to decide...?

Anybody worked in a Saw Mill? They have their own measurement standards just as above but in sign language. Amazing when they are busy...:):)
