I've just come back from a an ITIL course.

I'd lost the will to live by halfway through.

What a load of ****.

I have seen many fads come and go during my 30 years in IT.

They all had a few things in common:

Use of high language
Patronising analogies that seem to suggest that decision makers are too dim-witted to understand technology
They always claim to save money, and all cost more at the end
Organisations embrace them with fanfare, then later bury them quietly in the night and move on to the next 'big' thing...

But ITIL was originally a UK government initiative (spearheaded by Margaret Thatcher).

How many *successful* UK govewrnment IT projects can you think of that have been in time, under budget and working?

Anyone?

I really cant understand why ITIL has been adopted by so many? :dk:

i've worked on three that we seemed to do our best to make run overbudget and late. :wallbash:

You dont work for CapGemini do you?

I like the ITIL structure, but this video doesn't even come close to my understanding, nor use of ITIL.

I've been involved with many successful .gov.uk projects. All on time, all within budget and all working! The problem with IT projects at this level is the client, in this case the DWP, don't fully understand their own requirements, so naturally, a lot of "moving the goal posts" occurs mid-design, which obviously increases the costs.

What a complete pile of twaddle!

It never ceases to amaze me how many times nothing more than common sense is given an acronym and then branded a 'standard' so people can make money from it. If IT (or any) staff don't understand service and delivery of their services and have to be lectured to like complete morons and told how to do their jobs then fire them and get in some people who actually want their jobs!

I completely agree Dave.

I've heard that same American voice extol the virtues of so much new cr@p over the years that after a while she just becomes so much wallpaper

This is a classic contender for Bull**** Bingo - how many can you cross off?

EDS - what a complete bunch of to$$ers.

I have endured their many abortive attempts at overpriced, never-on-bloody-time systems over the years.

Shoot the lot of em!!

Nice generalisation and overly agressive.

EDS no longer exist, they were aquired by HP 2 years ago.
