Dear All,

Quick question, I feel my steering rack could be the cause of my vibration issue, mentioned elsewhere.

As what speed does the steering rack on a W210 E55 AMG stop giving assistance. As the rack gives variable assistance, there must be a speed where it stops providing asstance.

Thanks

Ian

Are you sure yours is speed sensetive, my understanding is that it's variable rate when turning not speed variable.

It gives much less assistance at close to straight ahead than when turned.

Also I don't see why assistance would give cause for vibration, that's almost certainly a result of road wheels turning.

Thanks, I will check.

My thoughts why the above is so, are :

The vibration happens over a certain speed and any speed over this

The vibration gets worse when lifting off (over this speed) (more weight on the front)

The car vibrates and feels ‘loose’ under breaking (weight transfer again to the front)

We have eradicated the rear wheels, driveshafts, and the prop is fine….

More thoughts……….

Check the wheels, tyres and all suspension bushes and joints.

Sounds like inner track control arm bushes. I don't see how the rack could do this, rack wear shows up by too much wheel movement/play.
