The smell of burning rubber

Strange one this. . . .

After the CLK 320 1998 had done a 200 mile journey I could detect a smell of warm/hot rubber from the nearside rear tyre.

I checked the tyre temp and the inside was warm but not too hot to touch, just like the offside rear tyre. (New tyres all round 300 miles ago).

Thus what could the smell be, exhaust mount ? Tyre curing ? Has anyone else ever had something like this.

Same thing happened tonight on similar journey.

Thanks Ian

Thanks, but I would suggest that is that was the case it would smell like brakes not tyres, and the wheel would be hot?

Thanks for the 1st reply. Ian

i get something similar on my s211 but not all the time. the tyre is hot totouch, but nothing else seems wrong

I think it's time to get the geometry checked anyway.....

Thanks....

Are inflation pressures correct ?

An under-inflated tyre will heat up due to internal friction between the cords as they flex more .

Gemoetyr check sounds like a good idea.
