Another cabinet minister has gone but Boris won't go no matter how many cabinet ministers resign. To hell with the country and the Conservative party, he won't go until he's dragged out. It's a sad confirmation of his character that he will lack moral standards and be selfish until the very end.

Rest assured he'll be back to earning a million a year within a blink.

Could say it's like Gordon Brown after his departure, but on a far, far greater level.
(Gordon's "charity" is a limited company that he operates as his family office, which isn't a registered charity)
Gordon Brown is highest earning MP with £1.37m - but he gives it all to charity

"The book" will be worth millions but he'll be too busy with other stuff to write it for a decade or so

Looks like Adolf, Vladimir, Johnston is staying. As long as there's 20-30 followers, he is staying on and you just have to go along with it. Crack on Doris 😇

Can't lead a non government.
Bye bye.

This farce is more embarrassment for the lesser Great thingy

The whole thing is unbelievable. As I write these words, Gordon Brown is still holed up in Downing Street. He is like some illegal settler in the Sinai desert, lashing himself to the radiator, or like David Brent haunting The Office in that excruciating episode when he refuses to acknowledge that he has been sacked. Isn't there someone – the Queen's Private Secretary, the nice policeman on the door of No 10 – whose job it is to tell him that the game is up?

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson - 10th May 2010

The faces of his front bench behind him at PMQ’s yesterday spoke volumes for me.
David Davis in particular delivered a straight right, and it landed square on the jaw.

Only this fool could make the anniversary of 7/7 about him.

Well given that it's those around him taking the initiative and doing the pushing to change the government status quo - then surely the responsibility for any coinciding of the date lies collectively with them?

I suspect the problem for any party leader in this situation is that they judge their support and they don't go easily. Mr Johnson has been under pressure a few times and has held on - probably consuming more of his internal support reserve as he has gone and just hanging on to his senior colleagues. What we are seeing is that reserve used up and the senior colleagies finally withdraw their support - and he has to capitulate to the inevitable.

It's not a nice process.

It's also not so clear what the quieter MPs in the Conservative parliamentary group actually want.

If we end up with a caretaker PM then that has its own problems - it doesn't reconcile the situation - and if we emnd up with the current PM pon extended notice then taht is a 'dead man walking' situation in the interim.

There will be the usual calls from other parties for an election on the principle that the public have a leadershpi they didn't vote for in the last GE.

But it's also not clear where this is going. There's no clear sign of a prospective replacement. Last time there was a big wobble it looked like Mr Sunak was about to toss his hat into the ring for a quick takeover - that's not so clear now.

What makes you think Boris wanted to resign?

Agreed, the War on Terror and terror attacks have disappeared under "this fool's" leadership.

Bring back Tony !!

Don’t really understand why he’s staying on as PM. Surely it was his incompetence in this office that’s the problem. If they couldn’t serve under him yesterday, how come it’s ok today?

There's no sign of a replacement ready to go.

The country needs a PM.

This sort of deposing of the PM thing is a mess where there is no planned handover as compared to something planned and organised (eg. Mr Blair to Mr Brown).

If there was a caretaker then I think he/she would be likelyy to be somebody out of the runnng for the real job.

As regards 'incompetence in office' I think the real issue is personality - the actual competence or incompetence of the office as such is down to the cabinet members as whole. But with the PM outgoing it will be easier for those in his cabinet to slide away from anything they think weaknes their position and lump it on to the finger of blame pointing at Mr Johnson.

I wonder if Mr Gove might pop up as a contender as a caretaker once the dust settles and they start to organise Mr Johnson's successor.
