FOR SALE - The Whale - 1991 - 230 CE
Well , it's time for the Whale to go
She's been with me for 5 years now , but i have bought a new car ....
1991 – J reg – 230 CE in Arctic White , Black Leather , Zebrano trim , 150K , some history.
17 inch AMG split rim reps with colour coded centres . The fronts have new tyres ( Pirelli P Zero Rosso ) the rears are fine for now but will need replacing soon ( ish ).
She is taxed until September 2008 and MOT’d until March 2009
All electrics work as they should , seatbelt presenters , all windows , sunroof , mirror. The car has no air-con though . The heater works in all positions and all settings and is quiet. Heated rear screen works fine too.
Work done since I have owned the car includes :-
Rear subframe mounts replaced – subframe dropped , welding done , undersealed and remounted - cost me £600
New ( genuine OEM ) HT leads - £200 ish , Dizzy cap.
New shocks front and rear ( Bilstein ) the car is lowered approximately 35mm
New front pads recently
New downpipe and mid section a couple of years back.
New OVP relay within the last year.
It’s had other bits and bobs done to it , but I can’t remember what they are off the top of my head , if I remember , I will add them to this thread.
The car currently has an aftermarket steering wheel ( Isotta ) , I will leave this on , and include the OEM one in the sale so you can choose which you would prefer. It also has a very nice zebrano gearshift lever.
The car also has an aftermarket Avantgarde grille, I have the original , and will include this in the sale so you can put it back to OEM if you choose.
The car has facelift lights all round ( clear front indicators , smoke / red rear lenses ) I have all the original pre-facelift lights and will include these in the sale too.
I have a spare front bumper / valance ( in silver / grey ) that I will also include in the sale.
Car has custom mats , black with white piping ( look very nice )
Illuminated sills.
It has a chrome gearshift surround , heater control surrounds and speedo rings.
I will leave all the hi-fi in the car for the buyer , it has an Alpine head unit , Pioneer amp , Pioneer sub in custom box ( so you don’t lose loads of space in the boot ) , Infinity front speakers , and Kicker rears ( all custom fit , so nothing is on show )
It is just starting to show a little rust on the front arches , and I was going to have it done this summer , but now I have my new car , I won't be getting them done now , it’s not terrible by any means . There is also a small bit of rust appearing on the passenger door.
It has the makings of a slightly noisy rear wheel bearing and would benefit in the future of replacing it ( we can't work out which one it is , it’s not anywhere near the stage that it ‘needs’ doing. ) You only really notice it on a new smooth road , with the radio off.

I should point out that the car is what I call a ‘cruiser ‘ , she loves to sit at motorway speeds. She’s no sluggard , but don’t be expecting Earth shattering performance off the lights .She has never been driven hard during my ownership , and certainly not participated in any traffic light Grand Prixes. Expect about 30 mpg on the motorway and about 25 about town.
Summer is coming , and these CE’s are perfect for the warm weather , get all the windows down , and the pillarless coupe really comes into her own. A lot of people don’t like white cars , but she has a lot of ‘road prescence’ and is really still a wonderful looking car. I will be sad to see her go.
I would rather she went to someone who is going to look after her , rather than break her for her wheels and bits and bobs ( I have been asked if I would do that , and I wont ) .
The numberplate will be staying with me , and I won’t be able to complete the sale to anyone until I have the transfer documents returned.
I’m not really sure what she’s worth to be honest , shall we say £1750 and I’ll take offers ? Feel free to offer what you think she’s worth , the worst I can say is ‘no’ …
Thanks for looking , I hope she will go to a good home. I would be keeping her myself , you may remember I was looking at a BMW 7 series , well I went off that idea and was going to keep the Whale for the summer , but then a deal came along that I couldn’t say no to.
