The Wheel Specialist - Nottingham (or any branch!)

Afternoon all,

Does anyone have any experience of the above company please? Ideally the Nottingham branch, but failing that, i'm wondering what the quality of work is like from any branch really. Rather annoyingly, i've managed to curb a front wheel on the lovely (and completely pointless) mini curb inside a LeShuttle double deck car carrier whilst on the way back from France on Sunday, so now in need of some repairs (looking at getting the wheel re-diamond cut).

Frustratingly, trying to get anyone to respond to a quote request is proving difficult, but The Wheel Specialist have responded very quickly and with a price i'm happy with.

Any views welcomed.

I haven’t used him yet, but at some point I will try this guy who’s not too far from you:

 
I haven't tried The Wheel Specialist, but my local tyre fitter recommended Neil's Pristine Wheels in Risley - I haven't used him yet, but he's given me a good price to fully refurb a set of 4 alloys, so I've got him lined up to do my summer rims when I swap to my winter wheels.

Funnily enough I tried this guy first as he’s super local to me, but his website is out of date and he no longer offers diamond cutting unfortunately.

Otherwise he would have got my business based on the strength of his reviews alone!

Blast, it’s diamond cutting I need for most of my wheels.

The problem with diamond cutting is that you may lose the AMG motif on your wheel. Annoyingly this happened to me despite the specialist assuring me that it wouldn't.

Yes, that's one of my fears too. Problem is, I'm staring down the barrel of £900 for a new wheel, used ones seems somewhat hard to come by!

I enquired from MB dealer the wheel on mine was going to be £1500 and also nla!

I saw a diamond-cut-effect two tone paint on here in the past, which is the route I will go when I get all 4 of my diamond cut alloys sorted (my last diamond cut lasted 3 or 4 months during a baking summer!). I'm not finding it easily, but I want to say I remember it being someone around Notts. Maybe @KennyN remember?

Hoping I've also remembered he's local?

I had my diamond cut alloys done at Lepsons, didn’t lose the amg motif, so this would depend on who is doing the alloys.
 
I actually drove through with my wheel and they told me it wasn't possible to recut the lip as it was slightly buckled (not side to side but up and down) they put the wheels on a lathe before hand
The detailer i use uses them

Thanks for the replies all. Seems that my wheel has been re-cut already (maybe more than once) - based on close up photos I sent to The Wheel Specialist, they confirm this. It's also a different colour to the other wheels (which are matt black on the inner face/blades) - so definitely been poorly done previously.

The snag is that any attempt at another cut could result in the lip becoming flush with the blades (as that picture of above seems to show), which is what I want to avoid. I want it as close to OEM as possible, so I think I'm going to sit tight and wait for a used wheel to come up. Given I also seem to have taken a chunk out of the lip (only spotted this morning), I can't imagine me being happy with a repair, especially if they have to add material to it.....

Have seem some used wheels already, nothing suitable to buy at the moment, but they are out there, I think I need a 5-spoke, 9.5J ET25 wheel. with part no. A2134012800.
 
I bit the bullet and bought new the problem with buying 2nd hand is that you might be in the same situation next time you kirb it 🤔

True that. £900 might be a hard sell with the wife :)
