Well - having eventually got the blasted T30 bolt out, I removed the old steering wheel. The shifter buttons are connected to the main loom by two wires, which feed in through the same place as the air bag and remote buttons, and have a handy push fit connector.

What this means is that YOU CAN have a nice wood and leather steering wheel on your CL55 AMG and I would imagine SL55 AMG AND keep the shifter buttons :bannana: All it needs is for the wood/leather wheel to have the appropriate cut out made into the expanded foam, feed the wires through a small hole which you can cut and connect to the snap on connector on the main wiring.

I'm rather chuffed with myself after all that - will post some pics once my wood/leather wheel arrives. If anyone knows of some trendy aftermarket flappy paddles please let me know !

Cheers

Jonny

Very Good News, if and when Jonny i will have you put mine on ;) Where are you getting your steering wheel from ?

Now this is something I'd like to do to my S500.........

Just an add on to this thread, here is an article on attaching Paddle shifters to a standard steering wheel on an E38/39 BMW using Mercedes AMG Paddles,

HowTo-> Paddle shifters from Mercedes on a E38 and yes it works! (long)

I wonder if it could be done on our cars using the original wheel, according to the site the paddles cost about $100

hope those american car washes use clean water/sponges!

They're ok, but I use two buckets, grit guard and lambswool mitt. The air fresherner was about three years old and lying around from stuff I transferred over from previous cars !

steering wheel looks great btw!

Looks even better in the flesh. The steering wheel leather is in the middle of the dark brown dash top and the lighter coloured seats and trim and totally transforms the car. The original wheel was dark brown and didn't look at all nice. Ask Pete ! (C32 AMG)

Similar to my wheel (but no paddles :o )

Used to use those guys when I studied in Liverpool, the place they had on Duke Street. Think they're not there anymore? Anyway I now wash using the two bucket method, had the BMW serviced earlier this week told them not to wash it (it's filthy at the moment) they thought I was crazy not wanting it washed :D

how much was the wheel?

Whats involved in fitting the paddle shift levers to a C32 any ideas????

Great looking steering wheel:thumb:
