Hello

I had a test drive in an E63 the other day and I really liked it.

I don't know much about these cars at all and I'm hoping that the forum can help me here.

The car I went out in was just a few months old and was a 5.5 litre twin turbo. I know there used to be an S version of this car but the salesman told me that the S was dropped some time ago and that after this all of the cars had the same engine spec. Is this correct?

The E63 appears to be very popular on the forum and I'm hoping that members can give me some ideas about good and bad points and what to look for as far as spec and extras are concerned.

Thanks

Hello

Salesman = Truth.
One of life's constant struggles..

The brand new E63 (4 Litre bi-Turbo has a fraction more HP than the E63 S).
The 5.5 Bi-Turbo you refer too, does not.

So the salesman told you a half truth.. yes, the Brand new 2017 model does indeed have slightly higher HP, but the 5.5 you refer to, nope!
The salesman is leading you slightly up the garden path with that one.

Don't forget, the E63 S has more than just an Engine upgrade, the whole suspension is different (many posts on here about that).
It drives much sharper and dynamic than a "normal" E63 and therefore the road holding is much improved. Again I have had both and the difference is very noticeable.

Much like the CLK63 and the CLK63 Blackseries. Engine performance was only slightly more, but the difference in driving was significant.
I know, I had both again lol.

I stand to be corrected, but even the new E63 (4L) does not have this suspension upgrade which is reserved for the "S" versions.

Do a little more homework, as this is why the "S" versions still command a premium and are rare.

All the best with your Search.
