Thinking of buying my first MB for £8k - SL or CLK?

My wife was using the SL as an every day car for a year and she got on well with it.... and with the staff at the petrol station.

When my daughter started school it was costing £5 a day to use the SL on the school run. the easy solution I bought a 1999 Ford KA for the school run it costs £8 in petrol a week and the insurance is £20 a month, so we are saving money and keeping the SL tucked up for the weekend and days when I'm fed up with the Mondeo (every other day).

Bill I think Tony Purslow is a one off. I have a good relationship with MB Walton's parts department but their service department is staffed by the corporate generation. £250 + VAT for basic wheel alignment?!

Stats, I used both, when I was in Walton recently, I pointed out the discounts offered by Tony Purslow in Guildford for older cars, they said they would match it!

Well that's good to know - though I already get the 20% for the 3-Plus scheme. Mine isn't 6 years old yet!

I can only presume the same! As far as I'm aware Walton isn't closing when MB World opens?

The manager from the Bodyshop in Brentford came to look at the rust on the C43 at my house last week. He mentioned that they where moving to Brooklands.

Mick Butler? It's possible - though Brentford would be the first to go - packed in like sardines there.

Thanks again folks.

A lot of responses about the SL, but what about the CLK? Anyone have experience of these? Which would be the better engine choice - 280K or 320? Are these chuckable driving machines or just grand tourers?

clks are rubbish

quality awful

loads of known faults

steer clear

i cant afford to sell mine

only thing is they look nice
