Thinking of defecting-I value your views

A W221 S-Class is roughly 500mm longer than an R230, but around 200mm wider, is it really that tight in your garage?

That's about the extra dimensions of a 5 series over the SL. Why don't they do S classes without airmatic.

the w221 aren't very prompt to fail.
I'd have one in a heart beat over any other car

I meant the SL is 200mm wider than the S-Class.

oh, ok. That should just fit. I presume we are talking about a SWB? S class diesel is looking promising now. Are they all airmatic and how prone to failure are they compared to ABC?

For your budget you should get a late enough example. The airmatic on them is generally reliable

Have you thought about the 5 series GT. Looks are a bit, erm, controversial; but you do sit a little higher than the standard 5.

The GT is a 7 series hatch, and very colour dependant.

I did about 12k miles in one year before last, it is a very nice place to rack up miles.

But not sure if I would take it over an S Class, but worth taking one out.

Interior is sublime on the GT.

Had a x2 BMW 530d in the past...the ride was good but could not live with the interior compared to the MB's...

+1 for the S-class...drove a S350cdi BE on business few years ago...amazing ride and comfort, drove all over Germany in it, was returning unbelievable MPG, in fact I thought the fuel gauge was broke at one point lol:crazy:... as Terry (WG MB) has said airmatic is now much improved in terms of reliability:thumb:

They have taken the lead in the last few years imho when it comes to interiors.

The new S and C Class are showing Mercedes have however taken note.

Not really sure....anyone confirm this? Wasn't it an option?

Airmatic on mine, all 4 corners, works flawlessly and has raise function for rutted tracks

Yes it is an option

S class is lovely to drive, and don't worry about airmatic. Mine did go wrong at the front only but then they had done 100k miles, which seems to be their lifetime. Smoooth ride, quiet car, power when you want it, understated luxury, lovely.

I had a good look at a GT the other day - the interior looks great. It'd be interesting to drive one

The car no-one has mentioned - probably because it won't fit in your garage - is a Range Rover. I think they have the feel-good factor

Not for me:confused:..each to their own I suppose...and we are on a MB forum:D
