I think the time has come to move on and try something new... I have in mind a late L322 Range Rover so famed for it's reliability... so the W221 S class, mine for the last 6 and a bit years and my Volvo C70 are going up for sale to help fund the new car... Thank you to everyone on here who has helped me over the many years I've been a member and I do hope to come back one day with a W222 or even a W223.... I will probably still lurk in the background though as I suspect I will buy another R230 SL at some point.

I had a 2010 Range Rover 5.0 supercharged Autobiography last year.

I too was concerned by the reliability when I bought it but it was an absolutely superb car, albeit relatively low mileage on c63k. I had it checked out when I bought it by a local specialist who gave it a transfer box oil change and a clean bill of health and after that I just ran it. Superb car, comfort was incredible, like driving round on a cloud.

The only downside to me was the fuel, though I expected that really from a 2.5t car with 500bhp. :)

If you do get one, try to get one with a decent warranty on it.

I got a little fed up getting stuck in the snow and so invested in a Range Rover L322 to join the household.

The trouble is its become a bit of a favourite and so instead of it being a utility fourth car its often the first out the drive ! Wife loves it - we are even doing the North Coast 500 in Scotland in April in favour of the SL, for fear of a little snow there and perhaps the flexibility of being able to go off-piste. And the novelty of being able to sight see from high up of course.

Lovely things.

A word of advice, I would avoid the Main Dealer in Ayr. I got robbed £760 for unnecessary suspension repairs to my XF
They also noted my brake pads worn 90% rear 80% front on the car at 32k but strangely enough six months later with an additional 8k the pads were not even worn 50%.

Good luck with the new car .

I’ll just say ‘ Haste ye back ‘ .

Absolutely, had bad experiences with that particular group in the past when I had a company car....

That’s one of the reasons I have moved to Mercedes. I used to work with Appleyard which had Jaguar and Land Rover along with Austin Rover, yes that long ago and I vowed to have a Jaguar one day.

The XF we had was a lovely car with loads of power but the Dealer service was appalling plus Jaguar let me down by refusing at first to replace corroded doors.

After the intervention of Auto Express, Jaguar backed down and replaced all four doors.
Sadly the car was written off in a non fault accident just a few weeks later.

I was the guy demonstrating outside Parks plush new showroom. They could have settled for a few hundred £’s but it finished up costing them thousands.

Deposit paid, picking RR Vogue SE up at the end of the week. Traded in the W221, so sorry to see it go but it's time....

Well, deal done, S Class gone ( although it's still parked where I left it, poor thing ) driven Range Rover a few miles and all I can say about it is "it's not an S Class". The quality is some way behind, ergonomics are poor having to touch screen most things, interior noise is slightly higher. On the positive side, the ride quality is almost as good, comfortable seats with high driving position are superb and load space fantastic. I'm sure I will grow to like it more as it was a long running itch needing scratched. I will continue to lurk on here as I reckon a w222 isn't too far away now. Oh, and the missus is likely to own an A-class sometime soon. Thank you for all the help since I joined ( nearly 12 years ago, how time flies ), bye for now, Robert

I seriously think it was time you got a w124

I have to say, when I picked up my Range Rover I was not immediately smitten. It all felt a bit agricultural, switchgear, trim plastics etc. etc.

However....over the next few weeks I realised I had gone from doing 2500 mile a month in the E350 estate to around 600 miles in 3 months.

There is something about the Range Rovers that gets you, I sold mine recently but I am really, really missing it badly.

I would love another one, keep looking on autotrader.

I would love an L322 and have watched the Harry Metcalfe video more times than I’d like to admit.

Potential for big bills still scares me from pulling the trigger though.

Our L322 has been good to us, the only problem being a battery drain and the air con needing a new compressor in the last 2 and a bit years.

Probably going up for sale soon because the mrs is getting a bit tired of filling it up all the time and only getting 27mpg

Is the post 2006 petrol 4.4 probably the safest bet for reliability?

My L322 was a lovely car to drive and be driven in....when it wasn't showing a nasty engine light or similar on the dash!
One on the last of the TDV8 L322's I figured they would have learned how to build them properly by then. Alas no and I gave up the fight after just a year. I had at least got a good full warranty which covered the costs, but not the inconvenience.
I can certainly understand the attraction, but the GLE does much the same thing, costs a great deal less to run and hasn't got the same elastic cord attached to the dealers....
