This car is an hour away from me. I love this color. All the 2.3-16's imported to US between 1986-1987 were the ugly champagne/gold color. Not sure how he got this dark blue one but my god it looks beautiful.

I'm so tempted to buy this, I've never seen one so cheap with only 108,000 miles on the clock. I've been saving up to lease a brand new GTI, but for $6000 USD (about $4,333 British pounds) this looks like a steal. And I'd be crazy enough to just drive my w202 into the 200k's and keep the Cosworth in the garage as a weekend driver and just lease a Honda later on. Though I feel emotion is fueling this decision more than common sense. The US 2.3-16's only had 167 hp, even slower than my c230k and I'm sure it handles more poorly than a new GTI. :dk:

According to the photos, there are cracks on the dash and small tears in the seats. Also, what is this behind the engine? Is that rust or just the insulation being ripped off?

I've seen the British Tv show "Wheels and Deals" that featured the 190e Cosworth and I kind of know what to look out when I go inspect the car but is there anything else I should be careful about with this specific 1986 model?

mods please delete this thread here, I'm sorry I double posted! Thank you.

Think the rust is due to sound insulation being ripped off- nothing to worry about, although I'm surprised no attempt has been made to cover it with some heat insulating foil type material in line with the rest of the car's very tidy appearance? Principle things with these cars---camshafts and timing gear--check exhaust manifold cracks-? self levelling rear suspension-check, rear jacking points and rear sills-? rear subframe front mounts on body-? ASD [ if fitted] function-?

non original wheels and front indicators of course but the car is non the worse of those updates.

A pressure washer let loose under the bonnet will do for the insulation in that way,as said above surprised its not been fixed at it makes an otherwise clean engine bay look untidy.

I think you'll find that the area that looks rusty is in fact the remnants of the foam on the metal firewall. After 20 + years the foam simply disintegrates and looks unsightly.
