Hi,
I tried to have my disks and pads changed today :( I say tried because when my chap got my wheel off the existing disks were huge  (330m m in fact...) It came as quite a shock and most of the people that I spoke to (including Jimmy) could only find disks and pads up to the size that I had bought (300mm)... Even an SL600 only has 320mm disks :) So I phoned MB and gave them the WDB number and guess what? "They should be 300mm disks sir, we have 2 in stock :D ...." Doh! explained that I actually have 330mm disks on at the moment and there was an amused pause... God knows what they are then sir !!!

So I am now trying to figure out where these beasts came from :( The calipers are rather large as well :( the closest suggestion that I have got so far is that its either a custom factory modification using S class disks etc

Anyone heard of this sort of mod before?

Regards,

Peter

Are all the parts MB? Nice find, but slowed your replacements down I expect. Best call your insurance if you are non-standard!

Yes :( thats the next job on my list... problem is people don't normally put big brakes on unless they have done something else to need it :( that will be fun to figure out :bannana:

Odd went to MB and their disks are 330 despite saying that they are supposed to be 300

The outcome is just as well.

True :D now all I have to do is find the parts shop that makes the correct O.E product I think the most likely mob will be TMC friction :D or Arvin Meritor...

Will get on the case Monday and post part numbers and options when I get them...

But right now two companies have told me that 300 is correct and GSW even told me that I only needed 270mm  Its not the companies in volved fault. Its the disk manufacturers that are giving the wrong information in the catalogs

Its possible that when the R129 got its facelift in mid 98 they increased the size.
PS I have 330mm on mine also

Yes thats exactly whats happened It came as part of the switch to ESP from the old ASR, and better suspension setup and 17 inch wheels :D But the problem is that all the OE manufacturers are still selling the old 300 or 270mm disks :(
