My personal thoughts on mods are keep it original/within spec available when the car was ordered. On my S204 I changed the mirrors to the black covers as per the NightPack option available when new. I've also just ordered a new grille - black inlay to replace the silver inlay. Again, it was an option when new.

Yeah I know what you mean most mercs are covered in that cheap looking chrome replacing it with black accents really give it a distinctive look.

Subjective as they look like black painted chrome bits. Wanna know why? Because every Mercedes owner knows they were originally chrome.

In fact on silver chrome blends in better than black. If you want to get rid of chrome completely, either paint it silver or replace with Classic 211 trim which has no chrome, just plastic.

It's not about blending it in colour coding or hiding it I said the black gives it a distinctive look and more aggressive you want it to stand out something the new mercs have as they obviously realised on a sporty car chrome dont give it that look and if your going down the whole original route people change the e55 front to the e63 everyone else knows it's an e55 because of the mirrors but people still do it its about making it look how you want not about copying others otherwise everyones car would look the same.
