And there was the bloke next door laughing at me for having winter tyres on last weekend. I said nothing

My wife drove past him late this afternoon spinning his wheels to no effect on a modest uphill stretch :D

Love it!

Actually I was disappointed the snow didn't last my tyres were so good.

4wd's slithering about and there was me in my limo stuck to the road like glue. Amazingly good I must say.

I've been gloating all day already! "What do you mean forgot to take my snow tires off and forgotten the snow chains in the boot?" I did it on purpose :P

Deeply, deeply satisfying I would imagine :)

TBH it isn't the white stuff you have to worry about, although there's not much that will grip ice.

Do you guys just use winter tyres until they're worn, or do you go back to summer tyres and keep the winter ones to hand for next winter?

How is wear and ride on winter tyres?

I just did 45k on a set of winter tyres through two winters (nearly three) and two summers.

I recommend doing what our sensible continental European friends do and keep a set of different wheels for each set of tyres, the winter tyres will wear more in summer due to the softer rubber.

45k :O I did about 7k on my front tyres. I don't know how long they were on before I bought the car, but I guess not long as they looked fairly new.

Err, the winter tyres that I have experienced on the rentals over the last few years have redefined what I thought was possible with grip in shabby conditions.

45K on a set on *any* tyres is astonishing - on winter tyres, which are presumeably a little softer and must have a lower TWR, is beyond astonishing (I don't know a suitable word!).

I do nothing but steady motorway cruising in my car and the rears lasted 20K and the fronts not much longer.
