Hi there, :)

I have a 2004 C180K WDC203 with 100,000 miles.

Of late I have experienced-

1. A heavy judder accompanied with an diesel like engine note for a few minutes when the engine the car is on D and R gear.

2. High idling revs.

3. Slow acceleration.

4. Excessive smoke when the engine finally picks up speed ( mostly while overtaking or joining the motorway).

5. Periodically the engine light comes on.

I have taken the vehicle for diagnosis at an independent Mercedes specialist and they said the fault is a Faulty Throttle Body. Before I embark on carrying out any expensive and unnecessary repairs I would like to know if the MAF sensor would also be a culprit.

Thanks

If its a faulty MAF, it will normally register a fault code on this model.

Throttle body fault will show as a throttle body fault.

As they both control the air fuel mixture, id go with the diagnostics.

How are you seeing the excessive smoke? Its freezing at the moment?

Thanks jaymanek, the smoke in recent times ( I can see it from my rear view mirror) only appears for a few seconds as the vehicle gathers speed during bursts of rapid acceleration. Is that something to worry about?
