I decided it was time for a change when I saw this W211 E320CDI, 04 registered (April 2004) with 23,000 miles on Autotrader priced at £19,985.

I p/x'd my W210 E240 1998 R registered with 99,000 miles - £2,400, not exactly mint with rust starting to show in the usual places.

I tend to do these things on an impulse but I think the deal is reasonable. I was attracted to the low mileage of the W211 with the 320CDI engine that seems to receive good reviews and the obsidian black/cream nappa leather combination.

Disappointed it hasn't got COMAND - but is this such a bad thing with the rapid change in technology and tumbling prices of TomToms etc.?

My W210 has 7 seats but the W211 only has 5 but for the number of times that I used them, no great hardship. I always had safety concerns with possible rear-end shunts, anyway.

Picking the W211 up tomorrow and looking forward to a new experience!

That looks a nice spec on that car, good luck and enjoy it :) and I this its the right build date

Hello,

You will love it, its a great engine and give great MPG.

Agree on the Command front while sure it would have been 'nice' to have as for one I just think it looks good in the dash. TomTom and the like are just as good if not better and you can take them in other cars.

Post the pics on collection.

Enjoy hope you get a nice day to collect

I have the Garmin nuvi 660, which Halfords recommended as they have had a lot of Tom Tom failures. It has been terrific and I have to admit is better than COMAND in so many ways. Can update regularly on your home computer instead of £250 for a new disc each year for COMAND and the speed cameras function is a real bonus. Against that, of course, it is nice to have it all plumbed in like COMAND

I don't know if your option 915 is a typing error as the tank size should be 80 litres.

I'm sure you'll love the car.

I think the safety side is OK. I looked at the W211 7 seater back in 2003 (eventually bought one this year) and through my employer at the time I raised the safety question (being a bit concerned about putting children in the rear crumple zone!). I got copies of the structural designs from MBUK showing how the safety cage is extended to protect the rear facing seats as well, effectively using the cage structure to transmit the force of impact down through the sides and floor of the vehicle, away from rear facing occupants. I deduced that if I got rear-ended, whilst the bump might not be as nicely cushioned as in the saloon we would all still be OK.

Let us know how drivng the 'new' compares to the 'old'

First impressions - big improvement on the W210. Feels much more solid somehow, and the improvement in available power is every bit as I expected and hoped for. The 320 CDI engine is quite a bit noisier under acceleration than the petrol E240 but that was exceptionally quiet.

Overall, well pleased.

Not the best time of year for pics, unfortunately, with the muck on the roads and not much time for cleaning with all the Christmas shopping. I'll see if an opportunity crops up during the holiday.

You're right about the MPG - 36 on the short run form Sheffield to Stockport on busy A roads.

Hi Peter,

Copied and pasted the details from the Russian website so not my typing error but you're right, the handbook says 80 litres.
