Time to move on...

What gets up my nose (and not just on here) is the poster who asks for info/help about some damned thing or other, gets one or more replies, then nothing from the OP - no thanks, comments, reports of success, just nothing. Manners seem to be a thing of the past for some people these days!

OK, so I'm a grumpy old git, I'm an OAP, I'm entitled to be one!!

This point has been raised on a number of forums and is a valid point. Unfortunately, the end result can be that those who could assist often don't bother after a while.

One of the best is when someone poses a question but for what ever reason gets little or no response...he then comes on to berate the forum and it's members...that usually does the trick, two pages of replies follow.

Probably had an unfortunate encounter with a bloke with a 650psi fist?

He still around owns a C63 black series now.

I come and go on here now. The demographic has changed and it's reasonably easy to see who to avoid if you need to. Anyway, if you think this place is bad just read piston heads for 15 minutes.

I've recently joined another car forum and it's really no different. They are mostly the same despite some enormous disparity in wealth and education.

The trick seems to be not to let it bother you.

davidjpowell could always create his own MB forum and then as moderator employ extreme vetting of candidates and delete any posts and members he did not take a fancy too. Members and posts would then be far a few between but at least the quality of posts David is looking for would be maintained.

There is nothing wrong with this forum or its members as I pick and choose which threads to read. If I start to read a thread and it bores me I move on. If in a few years time I decide to leave I will leave without publishing it here as I won't be looking for a reaction because I see myself as a special member who is entitled to respect.

One of my favourites is those who claim turn their noses up at the more savoury threads but it's clear from the lurker list at the bottom of the page that they salaciously enjoy them.

Ah yes...the lurker list.

David is wondering if he has overreacted and taking on-board opinions, like an adult does. There are people still here that I do respect and maybe I am cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Will ponder...

And for Druk... No I don't think I'm special - but have invested a lot of time as a member (no doubt as you do as a mod), and do not see why I should not voice an opinion, even though it may not agree with yours.

The quote wasn't directed at you personally Dave but more as an observation on what would be a correct way for one to behave towards the forum generally.
But why would you not think of yourself as special? Everybody should.

I may be fairly new on here David, but this isn't my first rodeo so to speak!

These kind of threads never go well tbh.

I'm glad you're reconsidering though, as the bigger the community, the better for all.

Just take anything other than solid advice from someone you trust with a pinch of salt, and don't let it phase you.

There are a fair few members here with strong voiced views, and you're never going to agree with all of them, but that's half the fun in life!

Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all thought the same?

I also feel that there's a certain 'clique' within the site, but isn't that normal? Ive never known a forum where there isn't a group or two (or three!) who stick together and have the same thoughts and feelings about things.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those 'new era' Mercedes owners, who knows NOTHING about cars, except what I think looks good, and how to haggle with a dealer lol but if there's anything else I can help with, I'll certainly try.

David

As "possibly" one of the people who made you look at your continued membership and contribution? I would urge you to stay.

I have spent the weekend pondering my future on here. Having received so many calls, texts, PM's etc, asking me to stay (thank you all) I have elected to do so.

I have also elected to stay away from certain members posts, in the knowledge that they will just wind me up and I will respond.

I enjoy my time here and like you, have made so many friends and received so much help on a very practical level, that I feel, I should continue and not deprive myself of something that I do enjoy.

Stick around.

All these people thinking of leaving - is it the Brexit effect or Trumpitis? We need to know.

A rapid Sturgeonectomy (along with a few others) and all will be well:D:D

I've made many friends over the years on here, even a few from Lancashire(!), and if I'd have left the forum on the couple of times I lost my rag I'd have missed out on all that, so whenever I feel as though I'm getting into a lather I always try and keep that in mind. As the great Richard Ashcroft once sang "there's more in a smile than in a hand".

Having sampled my share of other forums (fora?) this is by far and away the best and actually least tribal (Bruno excepted), yes there are the odd one or two who make inflammatory statements and they cry when called out on it, but the vast majority are thoughtful and helpful.

As internet communities go, this will always be home.
