hi everybody.i have been purchasing o.z michelangelo 10 wheels
info:17x7.5 ET35..
many people especially pros say that 215/45/17 will best fit with this type of wheel.but i want larger tires.pros ay that 225/45/17 will cause rubbing issues, trimeline, holding problems and it is said that 7.5 wheels with 225 will have a greater chance to curb the wheel.are these rumors true or not?
what should i do take 215 or 225?
thnks

Hi there and welcome. That`s pure crap 225/45 17s will be fine

225?

hmm even if 225 will not cause rubbing, will the car be more tramelining, will there be abs problem and bad holding?

225?

will the car be more tramelining, will there be abs problem and bad holding with 225?Because some people have experienced these issues with 225..
thnks:)

If them people had experience why not listen to them than :doh:

I hated 225s on the front of my W124 (with 16" rims), it did tramline and was nowhere near as stable as it should have been. 205s on the front with 225s on the back felt ten times better and the tyres tucked (just) under the arches. I found that putting 225s on the front left the tyre protruding slightly.

thnks andy k for the good info.do you think that putting 225 on 17x7.5 rims will cause problems like trameling?

He just said 225s caused tramlining on 16" wheels so I expect it would be similar or worse on 17" wheels. As a general guide the suspension on these older cars was designed to operate best with wheel and tyre widths available at the time. e.g. 15/16" wheel diameter 65/60 aspect tyres 6to7J rims The further you move from those original design specs the more likely you are to run into problems like tramlining, wheel arch fouling , negative rear camber, uneven tyre wear ,wheel balancing etc

thnks for the info man..so i think that putting 225 on a w124 won't be right even if it will look great.the more important is that the car runs withiut problems..so i think i rather stick with 215 tires..many people have no problems with 215.but the thing i don't know yet..`is a 7.5 rim suitable for 215 as i think that the tire will be more stretched and there will have a greater chance of curbing the wheel..this is what i fear if i put 215.

the wheels I had were from an R129, so they were 8J 16 with an et of 34.

npuk, I'm sorry, but 235s were never original spec for a W124 (not even the E500 AFAIK). I think they were 195/65/15 - although I stand to be corrected on that one :)

grober, 205 tyres on the front make the car feel 'right', much better than the standard ones and 225 tyres at the back give a little more grip without sacrificing too much in ride quality.

As I said earlier, I tried 225 tyes on the front and the car just didn't feel as stable as it should, even at low speeds - not something I'd really want to repeat

andy k
do you think that 17x7.5 et35 with 225 will cause the car to be not good in stability as yours when you pout 225 in front?thnks andy k for helpin me

Listen mate:AMG fit 225/45 17s on their cars,so they must have been so stupid not to think about stability.
As long as your shocks is good 225/45 will be fine, even on full lock

yep and AMG uprated the suspension/shocks and presumably have a different set of figures for tracking, camber and caster angles to allow for the lowered and stiffened front end.

you do not say which 124 you have but the later cars did have rolled front wheel arche lips to accommodate wider wheels.

when AMG specd their 17 inch wheels on the standard 124 , they did issue worksheets for certain body and suspension mods to be made to avoid fouling the bodywork.

on my late 124 with rolled front arche lips I have been using;

7.5 x 16 et35 wheels with 205 on front and 225 on rear, which matches almost exactly the rolling circumference of the original wheel and tyre.

so no problem with body fouling or abs or tramlining or anything, but my car is good mechanically with all bushes renewed as required as I do the work myself.
