My mother wants a toaster to the following criteria:

1. 2 slice capacity
2. Variety of colours
3. Not made in China
4. Cost pretty much irrelevant

Any advice appreciated

Dont bother with a SMEG , ours takes ages and when it pops the toast hits off the underside of the wall units as if someone in the production line had fitted a set of Koni spring to the eject mechanism, for a laugh. Even the dog does his best Scooby Doo impersonation when it ejects as there is zero grip on laminate flooring even with four paw drive.

Rowlett Rutland; UK made, bullet proof, sadly no longer in production but clearly still available. We’ve hard ours 7 years, many people 50 years.

no 2 slice version to be found now, but worth keeping an eye out....

Regards point 3, I think you will struggle. If it makes you feel better that it says it is made in some other country then fair enough - but I guarantee that at least some parts of it will be from there regardless of where it is ‘made’ :)

The funniest sentence I’ve read on the forum in ages. 👏👏👏👏👏😂😂😂😂😂

Well if you want to part with it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands just for the comedy value :)

Thanks for the offer but the Scooby Doo antics of the dog get me every time.

Damn you buddy ,I’m mentioned them to Mrs W , I’m now out of pocket for £145 for a toaster and kettle
We have the Duralit combo , the toaster is deffo not as good as the catering ones they do.
This is the set we have .. this is the one I want but she wont let me spend that much on a toaster..boo

I have that 4-slice toaster and it is fabulous, if it broke I would buy another straight away. Never had an issue after years of use.
You can switch it from 1, 2 or 4 slots being on, and optional warming tray let's you warm your buns... oo er madam!

Definitely Dualit.

My ex used to run a children's Nursery, and toasters lasted an average of 5 weeks of almost constant use in the mornings.

Although the Supermarkets were happy to keep replacing burnt out toasters, a four slice Dualit ran for years - in fact it lasted longer than my first marriage (!) and was still going strong after I had left...
