E300DT-W210-1997-Elegance-Azurite Metalic Blue. (Don't mention the rust, LOL) Running on WVO. 65k m

To install a D.A.B antenna.
It was temporarily on my parcel shelf since I bought the car in September 2008.
Blackpool has an iffy D.A.B reception in areas, so it needed to be a proper antenna instillation, even if it was done by me :D.

First run the coax up the centre up right bit :o.

Then behind this bit,

Then diagonally across to the hole in the roof for the antenna (short coax)

Loads of paint applied,

When checked for water tightness, the underside will be liberally coated with copper slip.

I've done this twice now, before on my old Mondeo, it's still scary drilling your roof!
Job done,

Looks like you did a good job, I cant say it suits the car though :(...

But whats wrong with the internal stick on ariels for DAB?

A mate of mine has one in the corner of his front screen and isnt noticable at all - never had any trouble with reception?

Have you sealed it correctly to prevent rust?

I've got a screen mounted D.A.B antenna, works fine for me. Looks like a neat job there though, nice one!

The best type of antenna instillation is the way I did it, your friend most properly is in a good DAB area and depends on what multiplexes he listens to, some are weaker than others.

Four coats of paint on the hole. Plus silicone sealant.

I did worry before about that but I had no option and after time I won't notice it .

Years ago I considered having an external aerial fitted to my '95 202. Dealers response was an immediate no, something to do with cabin pressure and airbags, can't remember the exact issue, but it was a clear no.

excellent work and pictures - how do you remove the headlining out of interest?

I didn't! I pulled it down slightly, after releasing the side linings(no idea what the correct terms are, sorry) enough to get my hand and wrist in, not easy to say the least!
It did crease but when it goes back up it disappears! :o Talk about a risk it merchant!

Interesting point there but what about having a window open:confused:.

Good job. Reminds me of the bee-sting aerial on the roof of my old Mk2 Golf :)

ah, yes thats exactly how i would have tackled it, hence my question. Good to know i'm not alone in my methods!

Havn't got a clue....what I remember was the emphatic no...and remember, this was a dealer turning down work.

May be they weren't as 'talented' as I :D.

well done and it looks a nice job.

however if it were me i would fit some sort of shark-fin style (like new mercs have or bmws etc) on the rear of the roof.

saying that i dont know if you can get these to recieve DAB.

dealers are usually a no-no on anything that isnt in the WIS etc as far as i can see..... dont they still claim that COMAND is not retro-fittable?!

An car audio specialist would of sorted you out.

sorry ---posted in wrong place--- a senior moment !!
