Today I hit a child at 20mph & realised the speed limit must be cut

I wonder whether if we were better hazard trained we would be better with no speed limit at all? Instead relying on our own judgement based on time of day, traffic, neighbourhood, visibility etc. It's an interesting thought.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make in my earlier post , but you put it more clearly .

There should be no offence of speeding - only careless , unsafe or dangerous driving .

Unavoidable according to witnesses.

2 pedestrians sustain bruising.

Sounds like the speed limit's about right to me.

If someone's going to run in front of a moving car and you want a speed limit that will eliminate bruising of a 4 or 5 stone child by two tonnes of metal then we need a 1 or 2 mph limit.

A far too logical and unemotional analysis to be taken seriously.

What you need is a good mixture of hysteria and dubious "facts" from which to draw an absurd conclusion.
