I have been trying to install this after seeing it on Top Gear, but its so complicated, my little brain can't take it.

I have a pocket pc e740 (toshiba) and tom tom navigator 2

i just cant work it out .....

I am sorry i can not help you either i have a tom tom go , after looking in the forum i decided that was the one for me ,the other systems i aint got a clue.but the updates are there for when sombody puts you on the right path to make use of them.

It's very simple guys - the guides on the site will talk you through it, and help is available in our forums or theirs!

Tried all that !!

It tells you to download the database , then copy pocketgpsdatabase_sc_ov2 and pocketgpsdatabase_sc_bmp, can i find these ?

Nope, lots of others though, its driving me nuts

the whole pocket gps forum is crammed with people like me, saying why have you made it so complicated to set up....

really thoroughly p***ed off now, been trying to get it to work for hours ....

Postcode upgrade is April/May and may take a while. TT are essentially giving away a whole new system, so I don't mind being patient with them. There are ways of doing postcodes already, but they will not be as good as the upcoming release.

Glad you got it sorted. With no offence intended, there are a lot of people in the forums over at that site who think that they can run before they walk. The software is merely a location database provided for free by a generaous group of enthusiasts.

There are guides on the site (and loads of support in the forums), which to me make perfect sense when decscribing the installation process. They may not make sense to less PC savvy people, but that's the way it is.

Just remember to be greateful rather than grumpy for the great freebie they provide! Just think - you are now slightly more experienced with adding custom POI databases to the TTG.

I agree with you Howard the pocketgps site can be pretty crap, expecially for installing on a pocket pc (maybe for installing on TomTom Go its better?). Many of the articles are very old, and rather than replacing them they add notes saying 'This won't work anymore so you need to do this' and by the time they have done that a few times it becomes unreadable.

But as Scott says they do it for free so hats off to them.

Dont get me wrong Scott, i am immensely indebted to the pocketgpsworld people, and i was rude to no-one.

My anger came out of my own frustration at not being able to figure it out My attention span and temper are notoriously short when it comes to things i dont understand

As you say, to a person with an IT background, it probably seems second nature ' Oh yes, do this , this, and this and it will work !! '

But to us non techies its a whole new world ......

Anyway, sorted now, off to play with it in a minute ......

Tried it out last night on a route i know has a camera ( just demoing the route in the spare bedroom ) and had the volume up loud, woke up the girlfriend , and was told in no uncertain terms to stop playing with it and come to bed ! (ooo er missus)

Patient - what's that I don't do patient - but in this case I guess I'll just have to.

The current postcode stuff is pretty kack tbh - for example - in our area it only has about 5 and not even my own Can't wait for the upgrade

oh I don't know - quite a few have managed it-

to date:

Fuzzer - sat nav aided unable to read a map , then follows the boss
Craigyb - less said the better,but read previous entry
Kinky - mmm - reading a map and following instructions - could do better
Kikkthekat - sat nav........

but no TTGs in there
