Had the first service at Tony Purslow in Guildford last week and I was very relived at how good it all went. After hearing some of the stories of MB dealers I was not looking forward to the service but everything was OK.
They even sorted out my door mirrors so they now fold reliably and silently free of charge.
The car was cleaned inside and out and they phoned the next day to make sure everything was satisfactory.
I didn't need a lone car or pick-up/drop-off, etc so when I phoned Friday they booked it in for the Tuesday.
So they were quick, polite and efficient, what more could I expect.

I had a similar experience with them recently. The only problem I did have was the size of the bill! I would however recommend them to anyone in the area who has to go to a main dealer.

Same here - knowledgable and helpful - They are the second MB dealer I have tried and were miles better than the first (near Bracknell colour+tree is the name!)

I've tried them and they 'seem okay', impressed with the valet too, even when it's been in for warranty work! Although I've not had a proper service through them yet. B Service coming up in 2000 ish miles.

Thinking of:

Bracknell / Ascot
Guildford
Basingtoke

Any other ideas, I wan't to stick with an MB dealer rather than a specialist at the moment....

Yes, I use them too.

After shocking prices and dismissive service from the Merc dealer near my work, I tried them and have stuck with them. Everyone has their off days (especially when you have to deal with the public all day long), but they are good. They have a night shift which was useful for replacing the windscreen (leaving it all night to make sure it bonded properly) . They even replaced my Command under warranty after one slight blip with ejecting a CD ('Better to replace it now under warranty, sir, just in case') saving me £2,500.

Someone here is best mates with their MD... did pass on the positive feedback regularly seen on the board. Apparently he's a lurker here ;)

Kinky used to swear by them didnt he? BTW anyone hear from him these days or is he another of our forgotten few who dont come back, and a Mod too

Tony Purslow in Basingstoke

Not cheap, but no higher than any other main dealer, so as far as main dealers go, they offer fantastic customer service. Of course as mentioned any dealer can have an off day, but it's the willingness of Tony Purslow to resolve issues that also impresses. No fuss, no hassle, good old fashioned customer service.
They actually phone you back regarding status updates, unlike other dealers I know where you have to chase THEM!

Have to say I wasn't that impressed by the Guildford lot.

My '97 SL was under full Tier 1 M-B warranty, but I had a very hard job convincing them to replace the battery FOC ... even though the book (which I showed them) clearly showed it was covered. Car also came back dirty (think it had been parked under a tree), when I had dropped it off spotless.

Some quibbling about carrying out a lube service under warranty, again despite the book showing it was covered. I had to ring the supplying dealer (M-B Eastbourne) and get them to contact them.

They were unable to trace a slow hydraulic leak (car has adaptive damping, so I was pretty keen to get any problems with that found while the warranty was still active).

However a recent MOT (which they outsource) was fine, done quickly ... very courteous & helpful.

None of these are main dealers - all independents. MB now owns all dealerships within the M25 area and offers a 20% labour discount / 10% parts on a ThreePlus scheme (cars over 3 years old).

Just had the B service done on the C320 by Tony Purslow Basingstoke.

Excellent service, my service adivsor / team leader even suggested I could save more on the B service in future by supplying my own oil (had read this on here before but forgot about it ;-( !!!). They even replaced a couple of broken items like the washer fluid neck and a couple of missing gromets for nothing :)

Anyway apparently Tony Purslow also have a similar scheme for older cars. They have 4+ & 6+ for cars older than 4 or 6 years. In all cases you get 10% of parts and then 20% off labour or 40% off labour for cars over 4 and 6 years respectively!

That takes it to £54 per hour for cars over six years old - not bad? Even more reason to stay in the franchised network for servicing???

Well I've been on their books at Guildford for 12 months now, and not had this mentioned by anyone. Car was last in there (for the MOT) a couple of weeks ago.

Seconded. A major service on the C250, including MOT, came out at a thoroughly reasonable £330. It will soon time to let them loose on the SL and see how it goes, but I need to order up 16 litres of Mobil 1 first!

Well the service advisor / team leader that I dealt with said that they don't really advertise it. If you've been on their list for 12 months someone should really have mentioned it. I can't see there being any differences between Gauildford & Basingstoke.

OK thanks I will check it out.

Just to confirm, the Tony Purslow newsletter I received today mentions the above discounts for older vehicles (4+ and 6+ years) so I will certainly ask for it in future! Wonder if the 10% on parts applies to bits you buy yourself, or just when they're working on the car.

Since reading on this board about positive experiences with Tony Purslow Basingstoke I have used them for the SL for the past 2 services and a variety of small faults that have occured. At the last service they proactively suggested a few faults that needed to be fixed on warranty. The car is running very well, all niggles have been cured!

I can recommend them, my experiences have been very good.

with Basingstoke they send out a letter once the car reaches the appropriate age (providing they have your car on their database so they can ascertain it's age)

Perhaps they only send out these letters if the workshops need more throughput. After all, it would make little business sense if the workshops are choc'a and booked to the brim with capacity stretched to the limits and then offer cheaper rates. So maybe they only formally notify folks during quiet periods?

Well now, Purslow or whoever does their mailings excelled themselves today.

Got their MB newsletter and along with it a flyer for servicing of older cars. Sadly it was actually one for BMW Four-plus from Hampshire Cars, another Purslow owned dealership :D

I had a BMW flyer in with my newsletter too. Perhaps Purslow were thinking that a worthwhile number of M-B owners might also have a BM in the family?
