There was an article in the ST's driving supplement at the weekend about the fact that cars have been getting wider over the years and now 33% of all cars are too wide to legally park in on-street parking bays. The minimum width of the bays is 180cm, although some are narrower. If you extend beyond the white line you can be booked. Obviously the main culprits are off-roaders. A Discovery, parked right up to the kerb will still stick out 21cm over the white line, and that's without taking into account mirrors. It struck me that this would be a pretty effective disincentive to buying these tanks if traffic wardens went round strictly enforcing this. They park down the side of the road where I live and restrict the traffic flow to single direction.
