Top 10 Mercedes Benz Myths

Yes but without the cheap A, B & C models there would almost certainly be no S-Class as we know it, nor any other of the top end products.

The "I just want one" attitude is keeping the Passenger Car Division alive & thank God for that....

The telling statements..

"Mercedes I couldn't afford" - always the way. I think Lambos are rubbish for the same reason.
"I used to consult to them" - probably advise on paint for the showroom walls when he was a tradie - and "used to" is the key phrase

Main reason for pinch of salt.... Australian... after all their car industry leads the world - if all shut up by next year for try to facelift 30 years old cars for the last 29 years is the yard stick to measure by!

Mercedes Benz - the best or nothing..... Aussies got nothing! :)

I agree with the mad auzzie ,my S is a great vehicle, but you get the feeling that you are keeping Mercedes going by paying the crazy prices for spares alone, and then we have companies existing because of the crap sat navs or phone systems fitted or command systems unable to take updates, then you get specialist mercedes garages, who have become so reliant on Star they have ceased to think, a motor on my S works every time you push a button except when there is a message on the screen, logic tells you that that message is stopping the motor getting power, but oh no must be the motor mate, another thing that shocked me was the 1930's electrical tape wrapped around the looms, with the last bit of wire bare before it goes into a connection, had a look at a number of engines at Benze on the Green all the same, people are scared stiff to clean the engines, still we are all in the same cart I mean club.

Thanks for that - gave me a really good laugh! Many true points delivered oh so delicately. :)

Ha Ha ha G Bush, Jacko ..big hand - little & Oz's answer to Bill Crosby Harris Lol . brilliant!

If he'd have took aim at German vehicles in general as opposed to Mercedes (which he did on a few occasions) the piece would have seemed more balanced.

As it stands, he sounds like a stereotypical Aussie who is trying to promote Japanese and Korean cars.

It was mildly amusing, actually it was barely amusing. I switched off at point 5 cos I was bored.

However, it is massively noticeable how much more respect I get on the roads in a Mercedes than a Ford. I do not go any faster yet I get less tailgaters and less people pulling out in front of me. Wether the Mercedes is actually a better car is completely open to argument, but the fact that it has more respect on the roads isn't.

And yeah, he might say there's as much tech in a Kia than a Mercedes but I know what I'd rather be in. And I know what the bloke down our street with a new Dacia would rather be in, as I see him stare hungrily at my car every time I drive past.

He's right.

The mainstream offerings aren't anything special, except expensive.

It just shows what power a brand has.

I found it very thought provoking, and echoes much of my thinking of late.
Doesn't stop me preferring Mercedes over other makes in a number of areas though.
Interesting point on the A class - I recently bought a Jeep Renegade and the GLA was over 10k more for a similar spec - that's nearly 50%.
Add in a 1k rebate, £399 three year service deal, no delivery/plate/pdi charges and the decision wasn't hard to make.
Having said that, my nine year old clk makes me feel much more special every time I drive it.

Very entertaining, I'm afraid I would agree with most of what he said, I've felt like I've been ripped off by Mercedes for years.

My W124 is special, my 1998 clk cab interesting and fun, but flimsy, and our 2012 e250 cdi cab worth sod all now.

The feel good factor gets less the newer the car gets.

Yawn.

As someone who is not very wealthy, my cars are second hand and generally quite old before they get to me. Mrs.203 is the first to agree that the Germans are propaganda experts so what is the allure? For me with my old 203, it looks smart, has comfy chairs, more room in the back than a 3 or an A4 B5( which for me is dull anyway) but above all it's RWD. Sadly the A isn't and despite it's good looks a 1 would be the choice there.
The suspension on my lowered C class is without compromise and flawed to achieve a 'feel' and the steering characteristics which I like. It's rather like an Alpha but in different ways. Apart from the odd sports car I would walk past nearly all Japanese cars but I would always glance at a Benz , Alpha, etc. why? Doesn't matter really, for me it's quirky and shows it's character wasn't an accident.
Same goes for a Disco or RR. We all know how reliable an 80/90/100 whatever series Toyota is but a LandRover makes you feel special rather than the same or worse still bored.
So my conclusion is if you're the type of person that has no interest in motor cars apart from transporting you from A to B as efficiently as possible, go and buy a Japanese Korean thingy.
If on the other hand you want something that's had a bit of glittery fairy dust sprinkled on it go and get something more infuriating!
