    Hi Everyone

there was a thread on here several months ago about an episode on top gear where they buy a mercedes cl 600 and a bmw 850i and run them for a week or so, i work overseas for most of the year so i didnt get to see what came of it.

i was already looking at the cl as a possible car once i have bought and renovated my next house, so i am very keen to learn of any probs they had

i was flicking throught the saudi tv channels and the episode came on again and jogged my memory

so can anyone pass on any info about the outcome

    kind regards

    Michael

The following week one of them (I think the Merc) had cost quite a lot of money in repairs. Never mentioned since.

A coil pack went (apparently) and cost them £1200 to repair.

dont base your purchase on any TV reporting of any car. its all carp. especially top gear!

get a good buyers guide or look at reviews on the internet by owners to get a feeling for the car...

    cheers

Didn't somebody on here point out you could get a coilpack for less than half that from somewhere?

I think that if you are buying a used car of this age and complexity you should be factoring in £2k-£3k spend within the first couple of months of ownership just to get the car to where it should be. You could end up spending more or less but in the final analysis you have still got one hell of a lot of car for very little money.
