Guy Martin would be good I reckon.

And so many comments from those who share a belief in TG being banal; yet somehow it's interesting enough for them to spend so much of their time here making those comments. Perhaps they secretly love (or loved?) the show really, but try to make themselves sound culturally superior or something by jumping on the critical bandwagon. Poor souls! ;)

A rather fanciful extrapolation, I think.

For me, the reason I spend so much time discussing a programme I really don't like that much is that, unlike many rubbish TV programmes, which are - well - just rubbish, underneath the banality and immaturity that are the trademarks of Top Gear, there is a really, really good programme trying to get out.

  • Top-flight photography and production values
  • The World's most interesting cars
  • Generous production budget allowing for global locations
  • Some extremely creative and imaginative content
  • Three intelligent, articulate and passionate presenters

Given all of this as a starting point, it is a mystery how they manage to make such a cringe-worthy final result.

I still watch it, though, for the articles that properly deliver against the raw materials. I used to hate the studio content and love anything done on location, including their glorious races and global adventures. Nowadays, though, I usually only like the articles where there is only one presenter. It seems that when either two of them or all three get together then the result is embarrassing twoddle. The zenith of this struggle for mediocrity being the appalling article on Peugeot recently, for which both Jeremy and James should have been sacked.

However, the thread title being as it is: 'Top Gear Getting Boring' would suggest that it's a thread for, and targeted at, detractors and that supporters of the tosh are the trespassers. Poor souls ;)

Agree.

Can't believe that there are nearly 500 comments on this, although to be fair, many are posted by the usual suspects.

Get off your respective high horses...I was pointing to the post directly above mine...about death threats.

I stand by my own interpretation.

Nearly 500 posts about a 'boring' TV programme, laughable.

Well, presumably there was one post by someone who finds it boring, and 499 replies by those who disagree...? :D

My wide screen ;) shows the (combined) thread title as "Top Gear Getting Boring / Clarkson Fired"! Nonetheless, my response to anyone who finds any TV programme or forum thread boring is simply to look at some of the multitude of alternatives instead. I find any TV programme or Internet discussion about pets extremely boring so I have nothing to do with them. I don't comment on them (except just now), instead leaving them for those who enjoy such stuff.

Sorry, I missed your point - literally and metaphorically. Yours was the post I mistakenly chose at random to quote as an example of all those who have nothing better to do than say they don't like something. Which is exactly what I did in this and my previous post. My mouth and foot come to mind.

AND ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT
A deal has been done to fulfil a series of live shows that were planned before JC was dropped from the show for hitting a producer.
The gigs will be stripped of all BBC branding and content and will be called Clarkson, Hammond and May Live

Jeremy Clarkson to appear on rebranded Top Gear live shows - BBC News

Where now for Clarkson?

I have heard that Jeremy Clarkson is opening a fusion restaurant, offering the best of Argentinian and Indian food.

Well, we know he's partial to a bit of Argie Bhaji...

At last...CCTV footage of Jeremy Clarkson punching the producer of Top Gear has emerged! You can tell why he got sacked...

Very good.

I think he should start a charity boxing reality tv show. Him vs Piers Morgan for starters.
Then all these "celebrity" tw4ts can face up to each other, rather than bickering on twitter and in the media, and box it out in the name of raising money for the nominated charity of the winner, and for our entertainment!

Give youth a chance. He is pretty good, his reviews are nice blend of humour and facts. Start over and let top gear evolve. Time to give the young a chance.

Perhaps Jeremy should now apply for a job with an M-B dealer as a specialist road tester to diagnose brake problems and the like

The difference being that he would turn the camera to look at him and his fat stomach!

I agree.

All things come to an end. Would have been nice if it was less acrimonious, but this is a detail.

Granted, it may be difficult to repeat the worldwide success of Top Gear, but the BBC will continue to cash-in on royalties from reruns and DVDs (or VOD).

Time for a new format with a new presenter... I would even chose a new name to prevent the new program from constany being compared to the old.

As for JC... my advise for him would be to move on and do something different, would be good for him as well I think.

but his motoring review deathly boring - I (as a petrol head) had to fast forward

It's a harder job than it looks.

And Clarkson has a style of keying on on several key attributes of the car he's talking about, identifying one or two themes to base the review on, and avoiding too much listing stuff from the brochure unless it's to make a point of some sort.

If you read Clarkson's reviews and columns then his formula is at times not dissimilar to Ronnie Corbett's arm chair monologues.

And it also helps that TG had a budget to go to different places and do trips with multiple cars.
