2007 S320 Cdi W221
Hi, Looking at the previous threads, I am wondering if my S320 Cdi 2007 W221 is due for a fluid change, is the fluid in the torque converter set for life, or is there a service interval for it.

A that age your car should have already had at least one transmission service, what mileage on the car ? (despite what MB might tell you) if you have no record of it being done book it into a decent MB Indi or transmission specialist for a service . When done properly all of the fluid is replaced including what is in the TC. Depending on the unit - not sure if yours is a 722.6 5 speed - if it is it has no drain plug on the TC but a full service by someone what knows what they are doing will replace (almost) all of the ATF regardless.

The 7 speed box uses a different service method and different fluid.

Depending on where you take it the cost seem to vary between £250 upwards to £350 for the job including new filter . fluid , sump gasket and possibly TCU plug.

All worth doing even if you are not (yet) having any problems with the transmission. Out of sight out of mind does not apply here IMO.

thank you for the info Petrol Pete, I did take it to a recommended garage for a service, they changed the engine oil, which still remained black the next day and only half way up the dip stick, also the auto gear box oil, plus all the filters which I bought. it was only a week after I discovered that they do not have a star reader, do not think they checked the torque converter, or is that not done on a Star, I am now thinking of taking it to MBS in Southampton, an indipendant mercedes garage to look at the car with his star machine, they might also be able to reset the audio from off to on.

Just make sure that whoever is doing the change will be changing all the fluid.....sump, TC, Cooler and pipes. Some times, all you will get is a "quickie" job, they drop the sump, change the filter, and thats it. And sell the job as a "Bargain", but it could be a very expensive "Bargain".

I think you hit the nail on he head, I suspect that might have happened.
Every 40k miles on that gearbox buddy
Just as well its been changed, its done just over 96000 miles

If you are in Bournemouth, take it to PCS in Southampton.

They come highly recommended on this forum.

Did you mean Prestige Car Service? If so they are in Horndean, not Southampton.

I can highly recommend PCS, they changed the complete transmission fluid and filter in my E320 CDi a couple of years ago which has the same gearbox as your car, Very professional and well worth a visit.

Sorry - should have had "near" rather than "in"!
About 25 miles from Southampton but still worth the drive, The owner (Ollie) will drain the whole gearbox, torque converter and oil cooler. :)

There is a very good cafe about 5 minutes walk from PCS, book in early, walk down and enjoy breakfast and in about 90 minutes your car will be ready.

Hi, DSM10000, thanks for that info, I need my radio and phone sorting, might give them a call to see if they can help, or it might be a trip up to commend.com

I would not hesitate to use both PCS and Comand on Line as required.

Let us know how you get on :)

Yes, commandonline.co.uk (definitely are 😁) in Lightwater, Surrey.

They should be able to help with the audio issues although it sounds like your AGW needs sending off for repair to me.
