Hi,

I recently ask a Mercedes specialist to quote me for a repair on replacing the front thrust arms as the bushes on mine have begun to deteriate.

I was told they didn't recognize by that name but rather front torque struts?

Anyway, they've given me two quotes:

1. replace both front torque struts for £265.04 (OE parts)
2. replace both front torque struts for £459.72 (Mercedes parts)

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks

Rob

As I understand it, the arms are always replaced when the bushes fail, assuming 219 is the same as 211. I've had both of mine done at separate times with unknown brand parts (as in, I don't know what they are) for about £150-180 per side so your quotes don't sound unreasonable.

Have you ever had problems with OE parts? Have they been sound for you? Unsure whether to go for Merc or OE parts.

I think it depends on the brand being sold as OE.

If you look at the parts prices on Eurocarparts they usually have a range of prices for the same part of different quality and manufacture.

Go for a decent brand like Lemforder and the quality should be fine.

First one done by this mob at 76k miles with ball joints both sides, second one by Jay's posse at 91k, currently on 120k with no problems thus far. :D

Thanks for your replies guys. Am I correct that the thrust arm and there bushes are the same as torque struts?

I've attached a diagram is number 140 the correct part I want if I were to order the parts seperately?

Which part would I require if I were to buy from euro car parts?

Would I need to get the tracking done afterwards?

Thanks

Rob

It's best to get the geometry checked. You know if the ball joints and dust covers are still in good order then replacing the bushes is much cheaper

I'm getting a knocking/rumbling sound coming from my front right and know from a recent service that the thrust bubs were starting to crack. I'm assuming this noise was something to do with the arms needed to be replaced whether this be just the bush or the arms?

The bushes do not knock. They give a nasty creak. Ball joints/ shocks for the knocking

So would replacing the whole arm solve the issue? I recently had all four springs changed on the car so wouldn't think it'll be that.

IMHO that's the kind of part where aftermarket bits are the worst possible option and original parts are the best
