Looking for advice please.

Just back from a cycle tour of Brittany, and now longing to tour further afield with the top down.

Is there a specialist breakdown/recovery service for older cars? It would be reassuring. Also any tips from people who have gone down the same route. There were lots of older cars on our outbound ferry, so it must be popular sport.

The new ferry "Armorique" from Plymouth to Roscoff leaves at 11pm, gets in at 7am and is very smooth and well designed. Well impressed.

We use the RAC for our 124. They charge a supplement for older cars but this is waived if you are a member of the full MB owners club. They give you a code to input for the RAC website. Long term cover for us was £196 for the full year. Owners club also gives inclusive access to EPC and WIS so well worth the £30 odd for membership.
So far not had to call the RAC personally in europe but my son used to have an old 300e-24 and called them a couple of times in Italy and Spain. Service was excellent.

+1 on RAC - They've helped us out on a few occaisions when we've taken older cars abroad. Cheap for what you get if you need it too!

You can buy RAC cover for the duration of your trip online and for an older car pay the suppliment, they'll subcontract the job out, but at least you'd get recovered.

Better still, contact Mercedes and ask what Mobilo would cost.

No thanks. Mobilo let me down badly with my last car - over 40 hours before we got a replacement. MB out-sourced it to Enterprise, who outsource remote locations to someone else, and no-one appeared to care very much.

Not sure about the rest of europe but in Italy the RAC subcontracts to Europ assistance.
Avoid the old car supplement by joining the MB owners club. Very few providers will cover older vehicles at all.

Consider using ADAC (german company) as their cover is not only considerably cheaper, it also covers you for the whole of Europe including the UK with no time limits iirc.

I think you need to book membership on the phone if you arent a German resident but it shouldnt be any bother.
