Touring: The Cairngorms and NW highlands with the forum

The newer CDI engines do win hands down on MPG. I don't actually think I can do anything to improve it to get anywhere near your figures Charles. It has cheapo tyres on the rear - Chinese things - which I'm waiting to scrub a few miles off before I change them.

Gearbox oil has been changed - engine oil - not yet. Tyre pressures were all checked before the journey.

A 270 Estate would give me what I could do with MPGwise but I do hanker after a 124 24V 300TD. We shall see. A 270 estate would always be a "jobbing" car and not a vehicle of pleasure compared to a 124 or 210.

270 is the best for economy/power but on a 211 they come with SBC brakes which if you need to change the pump will wipe out any economy gains you'll get.
