This is the first chance I have had to get round to doing a dedicated thread.

As you are no doubt aware the shed was fitted with upgraded springs and dampers. This has made the car tighter, more direct, more progressive and grippier.

As you can see, there is a minor change to the ride height. I don't want the car to drop too much. I like to drive on undulating roads etc.

I don't want to take too close up a shot as the wings are damaged from when the springs failed and the car fell onto them. £300 will have her sorted out, including an outbreak of ferrous oxide on a door edge.

As it was my mates last weekend in the country I let him call the shots for the desintation on Saturday, I fancied a long blast up Glencoe, Glen Etive then up via Loch Lagan to Aviemore and back via Tomintoul and Braemar. This is one of the best driving laps in Scotland.

What did he want, Fife and Edinburgh. Ah well.

The scenery isn't quite the same

However, the Kingdom of Fife is blessed with some really good A and B roads and I know them really well as I hoon here often. The shed came alive dropping foolish type R sorts who foolishly try and kept up in the twisties. It proved madjestic. Tad firmer when at low speeds, but a sense of prespective is needed by the ride quality above all else fan bois. This set up may be too firm, but a drive in a budget supermini reveals this set up to be entirely suitable without making a large car feel like a boat.

Whilst Edinburgh may not be the last word in driving nirvana, it gave me a chance to try her on cobbled streets etc. She was fine.

There is a brilliant Kurdish restaurant called Hanams in Edinburgh. Its great for Shisha smoking and kebabs.

After this, the shed attacked the M8 back to glasgow. 33mpg. That says it all about the speed, but she is so planted at speed compared to before. I've had this car since 44k miles before it was tired out, and it never felt like this.

The next day, was much more like it. Not a long run, but a nice drive to the other side of Loch Lomond to the pub at Rowardenen, by the foot of Ben Lomond.

Nom nom!!!

The last time I drove this road, was in my mates Golf MK V Golf DSG thing with sports suspension. Like a GTD sort thing. Really good. The shed would hump it. Trust me.

The road isn't the best surface, but the place has good memories for my mate so it seemed fitting to send him off with lunch here.

And the view is amazing

I'm really going to miss my mate actually, really glad he has got the job, but it won't be the same without him.

I see you parked in a nursery car park, Steve. Is there something you're not telling us?:D Great pics though and glad to hear that your gearbox now seems to be sorted.

He wanted an instant family. Picking up.!!!

Lol. It's round the corner from my mates and is level to photograph the car.

I am without children.

Gordon, the box seems smoother. Still flaring on 1st shift of the day but it's improved and out of all the 7g cars I've driven it's the best.

It's great to get back touring!!!

Excellent photos and really glad you're finally enjoying the Shed! Maybe not so much of a shed any more? :)

Cheers folks.

Jo, she drives fantastically, BMW Msport like but better...

Barry, that car will always be the shed. It's had a lot of issues and some minor body work stuff and then she is perfect until the next thing. Bar bearing shells and valve body failure I've had every v6 and 7g fault. Let's hope these pass me by.

NWmerc. I love food. It's amazing. Hog roast sandwiches for me today. No trip is complete without food.

Only 10 chips? I'da complained. :D

That was just the first course.:doh:

You deserve for them to give you a very wide berth! :D

Fingers crossed you've got the Shed sorted once and for all!
(hushed voice... mine is behaving too.... )

I suspect given the miles the shed is on (84k) I doubt the bearing shells will haunt me, they would have by now....surely.

I suspect the 7g valveblock issue will, but hopefully not for a while.

Right now I have a summer and autumn full of touring to do.

The Yorkshire YOMP, then I am off to Wales for a big tour and hit the evo triangle, then I suspect I will be in the west highlands, and maybe also the Mull of Kintyre. All tours I need to do, then there is the forum Scottish tour. Thats a weekend for the shed, not the Rav 4.....

I have my fingers crossed for you, that CLS couldn't be loved more, it needs to repay that love. Take it for a decent tour, these cars are amazing to drive. :D:D:D

Your Edinburgh location photos work for me. Your Culross set worked too. Looks like the combination of shed and camera is a good one.

Cheers. I drove through Culross this time. The old sports car is still there. As of tomorrow I'm on tour in Yorkshire.

Hey Steve, another great write up.

Firstly the slight drop makes the car look even better with the Sports rims. Glad to hear it's handling better too - you can't go wrong with Blisteins in my book.

Secondly the pictures are amazing (and bring back happy memories).

I love the one down Candlemaker Row looking onto the Grassmarket (had my first flat just round the corner - and a Stage II Mini 1275GT).

And the one of the church off Johnston Terrace (also had a flat there later on and at various times the Mini, a Fiat 128 3P and my first Alfa, a Sprint 1.5).

And to round it off a bit of Fife. Scene of my first hoonings as a 17 year old growing up there.

As I type, the International Red Cross and Oxfam are diverting food resources to where they're needed most...

(Hathersage and Whitby)

It's a good job too, the hog cometh. It's going to be a fat weekend and when I say fat I mean it!!!

Cheers mate. Fife really is great for driving, the roads are well sighted and twisty.

The shot looking onto the grass market was taken from Hanams. Great place to go and chill. Does amazing food and shisha.

The suspension is awesome, it makes her hoon able.

Did you take the mini or the Alfa over to Fife. Heading to Crail, Anstruther, Leven and Ely all give good twisty runs ideal for such cars.

I grew up in Fife and my first car was the Mini so that was first. However the really memorable thrashes round Fife, down to the borders and up to the Highlands were in a variety of Sud and Sud Sprints. in those days (early to mid-80's) they were just astonishing on twisty A and B roads. Used to love annihilating the local Barries in their "sporty" Capris and Escorts. Two corners and two bumpy straights later they'd be a quarter of a mile behind. They never did figure out what those funny little Italian cars were.

Aside from the Suds (and 33's) there were various Alfetta-based Alfas - GT 1.8, GTV 2.0, Guilietta 2.0. GTV6 - the odd Lancia - Beta 2.0, Beta 2.0 ie, Beta Volumex. And one Saab 99 Turbo.

Basically me and two mates got well into our Alfas and ended up encouraging and helping all our mates to get them.

Happy days :)
